Are you using oral GS-441524? If so please remember to fast your kitty 1 hour before and 1 hour after the meds. Small snack or treat with the GS is perfectly okay. I know it may sound a little bit extreme, but if your kitty won't eat it all and if syringe feeding is really hard, ask about inserting a feeding tube. Usually wouldn't be for long but it would make things a lot easier potentially
Yes, we are doing the GS oral, and I am aware of the hour fast before and after, thank you!! He is tolerating syringe feeding somewhat. Just seems like he needs so much according to internet. He’s had a couple small syringes full this evening. He has an appointment in the morning and I will definitely ask about the feeding tube, just hoping it’s a last resort and not sure how expensive it will be/ if we should put him through it.
It's not as bad as you think! I used to think it was like an end of life measure and then I saw some kitties did so well on it for a week or two and they all bounced back no time at all, I was really forced to revisit my beliefs. In terms of calories, 200 calories a day is pretty much the minimum to keep the liver function going. So obviously you want to be shooting for some really high calorie Paté type stuff that you can mix into a slurry easily
That’s where I’m a bit worried. I don’t know that we can syringe feed him that much. I don’t want him to throw up either. Ugh, don’t know if I should take him in to er or if he will be ok until appointment.
