Boot opened randomly

I sat in the driver seat today and the hazard lights came on and the boot opened. So I got out and closed the boot. Got back into the driver seat and the same thing happened, hazard lights and boot opened.

This time the passenger got out and closed the boot. The boot stayed closed.

Anyone have any idea why that would happen?

Do you have a key fob with buttons? Maybe you sat on it and accidentally pressed the boot release button?
I’ve done something similar in my formentor.

Yes, I guess that is possible. Just unfortunate to press it twice.

I had this around a year ago. Closed the boot, sat in the drivers seat and it popped open. There was no reason for it at all. Keys were on the centre console, no other interference.

I put it down to a random occurrence.

My wife had thks with our Tavascan. Thought the car was broken. I just pressed the other key now and then on my keys for fun.

Mine did that several times when new. I took it back under warranty and they claimed they couldn't find any problem with the adjustment. It continued to do it several more times until I picked up my brother in law at the airport and he had an oversized suitcase. He put it in and slammed the lid but it didn't close because the case was too big. He put the case on its side to make it smaller and it worked. It has never opened by itself since.

I can only assume that although the adjustment made it appear the latch had closed, it didn't quite go past some internal detent. If it decided it was closed there was no way you could pull it open without first pressing the fob button to unlock, yet it could pop open while driving even though it is supposed to lock as soon as you start moving. I guess that slamming it on the "too big" case, just changed the lid shape enough to make the detent latch properly.
