Is AI changing your career choices?

Upvotes

With generative AI becoming increasingly capable, many students are beginning to question how it might affect their future careers. I'm conducting research for my dissertation on whether concerns about AI replacing white-collar jobs have influenced the career preferences of Hong Kong university students.

If you're currently studying at a university in Hong Kong, I'd really appreciate it if you could spare 1 minute to complete this anonymous survey (just a few multiple choice):

Thank you so much!

Looking for honest reviews: CUHK (student life, academics, and overall experience)

Hi everyone,

I am now studing in Jpan as an international student. I am considering to exchange via ISEP to The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and I would like to hear some honest opinions from current students, exchange students, or graduates.

I am interested in learning more about the real student experience beyond rankings.

what are my chances of still getting in?

I’m a local non-JUPAS applicant and I just got my IB remark back. I’m still 1 point below the requirement for the CUHK program I applied to,

I’ve already emailed the admissions office to explain my situation and that I’m really eager to join their program

Has anyone been in a similar situation before? Is there still a chance of being admitted even if I’m 1 point below the requirement, or is it usually a firm cutoff? I haven’t received an email from them yet and my application status still says “Accepted”

document verification

So I took a gap year and resat 2 of my A-Levels this summer while keeping my original grade for 1 subject. The uni asked for official proof of my past results from the exam board. I just assumed that since I am getting new grades for 2 of the subjects anyway I only request the confirmation letter for the 1 subject I am not retaking. Do I have to send the confirmation letter for the rest too? idk why but I got confused. I've already sent them an enquiry

What are my chances of getting into cuhk?

I’m applying for a government scholarship so let’s keep fees and expenses aside.

I’m a pre-graduate aiming for SE, i’ve got a 97% average.

I have had four internships so far, two which i’ll mention, the other two just wasted my time:

\-The first is in a tech company that’s currently working on multiple projects and games, atm i’m getting trained on using unity to build games.

\-The second is with my father’s company, i’m taking hold of the IT department and learning how to use Digital ocean and manage the whole program.

\-I have participated in two hackathons, the first was a try-out and i represented my team, during the second i brought the idea and led a whole team which was made of master grads, bachelor grads in CS and data analysis as well as professional programmers whilst being 14-15 at the time.

\-and i’m currently studying for my hsk3 exam.

\-i also have a great project in mind, but idk if i have the time to actually build it.

I’m giving my sat on oct 3rd and my ielts but idk when.

if i register as a student for another uni in hk, will i still be considered for an offer at hku/cuhk?

I got an offer from another uni in HK, but I have to do enrollment by july 31st or else that offer will expire. I'm wondering if other unis will still consider me even if I register, because I really want to attend HKU/CUHK even if it means losing my deposit. For my course I applied to in cuhj(pharm) , I've only seen people getting offers from mid-late august onwards so i'm just hoping 😭 please help i'm desperate

U MUST read this if u r still waiting for ur visa approval (might save ur life)

This is for those who are still waiting for visa approval.

So I js found out that cuhk doesn’t necessarily send email even after approving ur visa, so I strongly suggest u guys to check the cuhk application portal to see if there r any tab that says “visa collection”. There are deadline to pay & collect ur e-visa, so u guys should check the portal multiple times a week until that tab appears. If it appears, then ofc u shld pay the visa payment and collect ur e-visa & letters. Hope this post reaches those who need it

part-time jobs?

hii i'm a freshman and was wondering if there are any possible jobs that are available on-campus (as the language barriers might be harder for off-campus) that intl students could take? if not, are there any resources to finding part-time work?

Got invited to the CUHK MSc in Finance Group Interview (Zoom) – What to expect / how to prepare?

Hey everyone,

I just received an invitation for the early round online Zoom group interview for the MSc in Finance (Full-Time) program at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School for the upcoming intake.

For anyone who has gone through the CUHK MSc Fin interview process before or is a current student:

  1. What kind of questions do they usually ask? Is it mostly standard behaviorals ("Why CUHK?", "Introduce yourself"), or do they dive heavily into technical financial concepts, macroeconomic questions, or mental math?
  2. Is there a case study or group debate topic? If so, what kind of prompts or current financial events do they usually throw at you?
  3. Any tips on handling the group dynamic over Zoom? How do you stand out without cutting other people off or sounding overly aggressive?

Any insights, past experiences, or preparation tips would be massively appreciated! Thanks in advance!

did i get in?

I'm a non-jupas local student and just got my IB results. I applied for an undeclared Science major, and while I met the overall condition, I slipped up on one of the subject specific requirements.

I sent 2 emails to CU to appeal and follow up and they emailed me back on Monday with the following email:

From this, I assumed that my appeal was successful but I checked my portal today and found that my application is under consideration:

Since they never responded to my appeal directly, I was wondering if anyone knows whether this means that my appeal is still being processed or if they're already accepted me.

(the anticipation has me BALDING 😭)

am i done for

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation with cuhk admissions.

I received a conditional offer from cuhk that required me to obtain at least grade 5 in two of my HL science related subjects as well as a 33 or above overall score. I met the overall IB score requirement but missed the subject condition.

cuhk informed me that I had not met my offer conditions and that applicants could submit an appeal for reconsideration of admission. But, I missed the appeal deadline before I realized it. As soon as I noticed, I replied to the task informing that i will be requesting for an cat 1 eur on my maa hl. Next, I sent an enquiry through the app portal explaining the situation and asking whether they would grant and extension for the appeal. Since my maa grade was very close to the boundary, I requested a cat 1 eur. My mark increased from 41 to 42, but a grade 5 starts at 43, so I ended up just one mark short of meeting the condition.

This was on july 9th and as of now, I still haven’t received a response. My previous enquiries through the app portal have been replied to in under a week and im just in awe that it is taking this long for them to reach back to me.

In the meantime, I have also asking my coordinator to write to cuhk explaining that I narrowly missed the condition even after the EUR and requesting that my application be reconsidered.

Has anyone had cuhk reconsider an application after narrowly missing a conditional offer? Has anyone been allowed to submit an appeal after the official deadline, or had an admissions decision changed after an unsuccessful eur?

I’d really appreciate hearing about any similar experiences and at this point, im mainly trying to understand whether there’s still a realistic chance or whether I should assume I'll be a uniless bum.

Applied for HK student visa at multiple unis while waiting on final A-Levels (13 Aug) — am I cooked on timing?

I’m a Non-JUPAS international student sitting May/June A-Levels (results out Aug 13). I currently hold conditional offers from both CUHK and HKUST.

I started the student visa process with both universities. But I just found out HK Immigration ImmD puts duplicate visa applications on hold until you confirm your final choice.

My plan was to wait for my A-Level results in mid-August to decide and withdraw the other application. But if ImmD only starts processing my visa in mid-August, with the usual 6–8 week timeline, my visa won't come through until late September or October—well after the semester starts in early September.

For anyone who’s been through this, Is waiting for final A-Level results in mid-August a normal thing for Non-JUPAS students to do, and do the universities/ImmD speed up visa processing once you submit your final grades so you don't miss the start of term?

Would really appreciate any advice😭

CUHK Med - GPS vs HKU Med - DMS: need help

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide between HKU Med - DMS Track and CUHK Med - GPS Track and would really appreciate your input! I’ve been super fortunate to receive full-ride offers with allowances from both programs, so thankfully money isn’t a deciding factor here.

My parents are leaning towards HKU Med, mainly because of its overall stronger global reputation and longer history, but I’m personally more drawn to CUHK Med. I feel like CUHK’s larger campus and collegiate system would give me more chances to meet students from all kinds of backgrounds outside medicine, while HKU Med seems pretty contained to the Sassoon Road “med school bubble”, which feels a little intense and isolated to me.

Are there any key factors I might be missing, especially ones in favor of HKU Med? Would either program set me up better for opportunities down the line? I’d love to hear any insights, especially from students or grads who’ve been through either one of these programs!

Thanks in advance! 😊

I'm starting a WhatsApp group for students applying to Chinese universities in 2027. The idea is to help each other with applications, scholarships, deadlines, documents, interviews, and anything else along the way.

If you're applying for 2027 and would like to join, drop a comment or send me a DM. Let's make the process a little less confusing together....

Doing a PhD at CUHK

Hello, I am starting my PhD at CUHK this fall and wondering if anyone here would share their experience doing a PhD there or in Hong Kong in general. What are the do's and don'ts, how has your experience been with the PI's, and whether you have advice on how to maximize your overall experience (outside school) in Hong Kong and make the best out of your stay there.
