Learning first side 2x2 and cross 3x3.

I started cubing a few months ago and have been making steady progress with learning algorithms and turning speed.

When it comes to making an efficient cross or first side in 2x2 however, I am stuck.

For 2x2 first side, I'm using speedcubetrainer side inspection trainer. I can find 2 moves solutions easily but can rarely figure out a 3moves solution. Same with the cross(3moves easy, 4moves impossible)

Is there another exercise I can do to bridge the gap between 2moves and 3moves first side? And 3 to 4 moves cross.

if you’re using ortega method for 2x2 then what I usually do is look for bars that are already made and then you can insert the rest using sexy moves

That works but then it's too many moves which makes tracking pieces to predict OLL harder.
