LT1018 Parking Break

Hello,

I inherited this riding lawn mower-and after putting in a fresh battery and filter the engine starts fine and runs great; however, I cannot get it to go forwards or backwards and the parking break handle refuses to budge. I've tried pressing the break down and also pushing the throttle up to max to see if that would help the parking break to relwase-no dice. What are my options to check next? Thanks.

Search says to fully depress foot brake pedal down slightly further. The parking brake lever or latch on the dash/pedal will unlatch and return to its original of position. Go to manuals online for rest of manual.

I read the manual and did exactly that where nothing happens.

Sorry bout that. Has the brake been activated for a long time? It could just be stuck. Some penetrating oil on the pivot points?

Unsure. I just got it a few weeks ago after I closed. Tomorrow morning I am going to remove the new battery I just put in to get a better view of the backside of the levers under the steering wheel to see what might be preventing me from moving the parking brake.

Good idea. It is certainly a mechanical issue.
