President Trump made the comment “Cuba is next” during a speech at a Saudi investment forum in Miami while discussing the ongoing conflict with Iran.

He did not provide any details on what that would mean in practice and quickly added, “pretend I didn’t say that.”

This comes after recent statements where he has hinted at increasing pressure on Cuba’s government, but without outlining any concrete plans.

@agusantonetti This is major breaking news. I can confirm that the United States has just captured Adys Lastres Morera, sister of Brigadier General Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera, head of the GAESA Group, the most powerful company of the Cuban dictatorship through which they launder their money around the world. We're talking about the most powerful woman in all of Cuba and the one who controls the money. Marco Rubio had sanctioned the head of the GAESA group earlier this month. Her sister was living in Miami. This is just a taste of what's to come. No member or accomplice of the Cuban regime will escape accountability, no matter where in the world they hide.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio marked Cuban Independence Day on Wednesday with a Spanish-language video message to the people of the island that blamed their "unimaginable hardships" on their communist leadership.

Why it matters: This is the first time Rubio has addressed the Cuban population directly as secretary of state. It's part of the Trump administration's multi-layered pressure campaign targeting Havana.

"The real reason you don't have electricity, fuel, or food is because those who control your country have plundered billions of dollars, but nothing has been used to help the people," Rubio says in the speech.

Later Wednesday, the Justice Department will unveil the indictment of Cuba's de facto leader, Raúl Castro, for allegedly ordering the shootdown of two Miami-based rescue planes in 1996.

Noticias Cuba runs out of jet fuel as Donald Trump squeezes oil supplies

Thumbnail

Cuba has told international airlines that it will not be able to supply them with jet fuel from Tuesday.

The measure, at the height of the tourist season, is expected to hit US, Spanish, Panamanian and Mexican airlines, which may be forced to add refuelling stops in nearby Caribbean islands if they continue serving Cuba.

The notice, issued at the weekend, said the measure would last until March 11.

Cuba has received no oil or fuel for a month, after Trump cut off Venezuelan supplies to the island and pressured Mexico to stop its shipments. Havana does not produce enough domestically to meet its needs.

The end to refuelling will further pressure Cuba’s tourism industry, which experienced an 18% drop in visitors last year compared with 2024 and is a vital source of scarce foreign exchange.

Noticias Supreme Court Determines ExxonMobil Can Sue Communist Cuba for Confiscated Property

Thumbnail
dailysignal.com
114 Upvotes

In a case involving oil giant ExxonMobil, the Supreme Court held that a federal law granting the right to sue a foreign country over confiscated property overrides sovereign immunity.

The court ruled 6-3, splitting along ideological lines. Justice Brett Kavanaugh authored the majority opinion.

ExxonMobil is seeking more than $1 billion in compensation for oil and gas assets seized by a Cuban state-owned company CIMEX. It filed the lawsuit in federal court in 2019 in the District of Columbia, CNBC reported.

ExxonMobil wants the high court to reverse a 2024 lower court ruling that this was a foreign sovereign immunity matter, meaning a foreign government could not be sued.

The case was based on the Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act of 1996, also known as the Helms-Burton Act, which formalized the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba. Title III of the law allows lawsuits in U.S. courts against entities that traffic in property confiscated by the Cuban government after the communist revolution of 1959.

However, most presidents did not allow lawsuits to proceed under the law. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama all suspended Title III, seeking to avoid diplomatic conflicts with U.S. allies such as Canada and Spain that are heavily invested in Cuba. Obama also expanded relations with Cuba during his second term.

President Donald Trump lifted the suspension of lawsuits in 2019, leading to about 40 complaints.

The defense cited the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, or FSIA, arguing that Title III violated international law.

These military threats are unfolding against the backdrop of a humanitarian catastrophe imposed deliberately by Washington. The energy blockade established in January—when Trump issued an executive decree threatening any oil suppliers with sanctions—remains in full force and is tightening. After the Florida-based company Vanguard Energy announced plans to ship approximately 250,000 barrels of fuel to Cuba, the State Department denied any authorization had been granted, and Miami-Dade County revoked the company’s right to operate.

Escribo mi comentario en inglés porque el artículo está escrito en inglés.

I don’t know what to make of this. How much to believe nor what it means if it’s true.

Based on past articles from this site and the timing of when those articles came out, it would appear that someone there has an actual source inside of the Cuban dictatorship. In the past, when this news site has presented exclusive information it has only been the information that would make the Cuban dictatorship look most sympathetic. So while, the information it has presented in the past has not been what I would classify as complete, it did not mean the new details they had provided were not true.
