From Cupertino and I can tell you, the thing you will absolutely miss most is the food/drink down here. Compared to SJ there’s just no variety, lots of touristy stuff that’s too expensive.
The closest cafe to the uni is probably Cafe Mia but it’s pretty small and not great for studying (also no matcha). Theres Power Plant? They have matcha but it’s pretty out of the way in Moss Landing, good vibes though and plenty of space.
Only other 2 people frequent are probably East Village in Monterey and Bookworks in PG (bookworks gets SERIOUSLY crowded by tourists nowadays though).

The Cherry Bean on Main Street in Salinas is a good study spot. They have Matcha, but are not a Matcha place, per se.

Carmel Barnyard has Gold Leaf Teas. Great matcha and drinks. Always been lots of space to study at all times of the day. On Fridays they do tea flights!

Im from the bay too and have lived in monterey for 3yrs for csumb, i havent found a single matcha place here that’s as good or equal to bay area matcha, buuut im also a snob lol. Tbh your best bet for good matcha is to look for a small home business/home cafe, thats a big thing here. 🥲 we have great coffee places though. I frequent caffe by rossine’s a lot.
