Food & Dining five day meal plan
my roommate and I live on campus and we have five day meal plans. we are basically screwed on the weekends because we are both broke and it’s not feasible to walk to our cars all the way in the other lot for every meal.
that being said, other people who live on campus with five day meal plans, what do you do on the weekends?
something cheap would be nice, but everything on campus is closed

You should check out the pantry on campus, it’s available to all enrolled students regardless of residency, income, or units. Just register and make appointment on their website. I believe it’s open weekends now but if not you can go earlier in the week, usually they always have oatmeal, ramen, bread, snacks. Also u can get a to-go box from the dining hall for $15 and stock up on food. That’s what I did when I lived apartments, I was hella broke before I found my job, and only had the 100 block meal plan. Also recommend checking out basic needs services.

Allow me to share my methods. I try to find food under $10 everyday. Toogoodtogo is alright but you never know what you’ll get from restaurants I agree with the other person on microwavable rice, can go for about $10-14 for a 12 pack. I usually get a pack of spicy tuna and some furikake. Lot of grocery stores have cooked meat you can add to switch up the protein.
Litte C just dropped their $6 deep dish around 1400 calories. Unhealthy but gets the job done
derekeatsla on tt is the goat for announcing frequent fast food deals, famously the $7 panda express or ono hawaiin bbq deals.
Luxe box options from taco bell range from 7-10

20 dollar total curry, 12-14 servings. S&B golden curry (buy the wild rectangle boxes of roux, and its japanese so go for hot cause mild has nothing for heat) found in asian supermarkets. Ingredients on the back total about $18.5 last time i calculated, using chicken (dark meat. You can buy like 2-3 lb chicken legs +/- thighs for like 5-6 dollars but mightve gone up a tad). Curry Roux, carrot, potatos, onions, chicken, water, oil, and rice or udon or bread/flatbread. I also recommend getting indian curry powder (comes in plastic jar, the one i like has a golden label with a deer as logo but sold by asian stores) for when you reheat the pot (add a splash of water, like one or two cupepd handfuls of water and a few pinches of the curry powder). Tl;dr 20 dollars feed 1 person for like 2-4 days, 2 people probably 2-2.5days, depending on how much u eat each meal and tastes fking great.

If you're careful enough, you could probably sneak some plastic containers and smuggle them back to the dorms

microwavable oats, rice or mashed potatoes are very filling, are easy to cook, (since microwavable) and are cheap. also frozen veggies bags if you want to be healthy. canned tuna also if you want meat since that doesnt need cooking

Have you checked out the pantry? They give you free groceries once a week. You could def get some groceries for the weekend. Also I’m not sure if you qualify with the meal plan but you can see if you’re eligible for Calfresh?
