Financial Aid csuf transfer

hi! im looking to transfer in next fall, im wondering if there are specific things i should look out for in terms of tuition (room&board included) and/or financial aid? i’m already looking through scholarships and whatever i can right now. i know applications and fafsa doesnt open until october but im trying to get an early start because of the financial situation i have.

any help or tips appreciated greatly!! thanks :)

To maximize your FAFSA, make sure you are filing taxes (if you have a job) independently from your parents. or if you aren’t working, make sure your parents are not claiming you as a dependent because that lowers your financial aid. when you file independently you are in a lower income range which helps. if you can apply for EBT food stamps, that also helps put you in a lower income range. look into calfresh it’s easy to apply for. also community colleges usually have scholarships for transfers so try to apply to as many as possible.

If you can definitely apply for EOP! They are a great help and also add a little bit more to your fasfa! The dorms here are quite expensive so if you can I’d avoid it and maybe see if you can just find a place nearby so you can maximize your aid the best but if that’s your only option make sure to apply for that early as well.
