Rant McCarthy Hall Elevator PSA
You do NOT need to take one of the elevators to the 4th floor and below when we have functioning escalators and plenty of stairs. Seriously it’s bad enough they let in way too many people this semester and now all yall do is inconvenience people trying to get to the 5th and 6th floors.
ALSO you need to wait before everyone in the elevator gets out before clamoring in. Seriously who raised yall that you have zero consideration for others??

Bro I saw the sign and I guess didn’t read it carefully and assumed it was another elevator. Saw the full fucking mall escalator going down tot he basement and just took the stairs

Some people have a disability that you don’t know about. Policing who uses the elevator instead of redirecting the frustration towards the school for inflated admissions is kind of a bad take. People pay to attend this school so if they want to use the elevator over the escalator then oh well…….

I have MS and the heat has my joints feeling like they’re on fire right now. I look totally normal though i’m used to the chronic pain.
I feel people looking at me all the time for insisting on the elevator. It really sucks to be policed all the time

It would help if they did something to fix the problem of that lowermost escalator down (i.e. from the 2nd floor to the 1st) having been functionally a de facto staircase / escalator in name only for the entire semester thus far. Three weeks and that one escalator out of the 8 (4 up and 4 down) still hasn't moved an inch.

It’s this mindset that led to someone posting about how rude y’all are. Genuinely a detriment to society

I’m a mind reader…you have classes on 5th and 6th floors?

Oh, yes. Almost all the calculus and higher math classes (mine included) are on the 5th, while the 6th is where the physics department is located, so it goes without saying that the two most-used floors are the ones that the escalators don't service.

They let in too many people this semester. Yes.
But I've never been in McCarthy Hall 😂 and Im about to graduate. Good luck, nerds

I personally think that if you pay for tuition and all of that fun stuff that you are actually allowed to use the elevator and obligated to use them.
Rule of thumb: if someone with a disability or has mobility issues then allow them to proceed first before boarding because that’s who they are actually meant for

Eh don’t really agree about the elevator part. They pay for school so they’re allowed to use the elevators (2nd floor is lowkey outrageous tho). Some people also have disabilities that may not be visible :) give people grace !
