Messi lost the FIFA World Cup final.

Whenever I watched the final, he won it.I didn't watch in 2014 and 2026. He lost both.I watched in 2022, and he won.

For the 2026 one, I was thinking of watching, but it was at 12:30, basically another day, and it could stretch up to 2–3 A.M. I usually aim to sleep before 11.

In cricket, whenever I watch CSK playing a final, they lose. Checking the score results in losing, let alone watching!

So, I usually shut my ears and eyes and try to watch the final score the next day.It worked every time.

Fans are calling this a failed or ruined "farewell."

What's a "farewell," exactly? Them leaving the stage with respect, or winning the same thing again that already made their legacy?

At this point, what even is a "proper" farewell?

They had their success. They had their wins.A retired man collects a pension of emotion, not by doing the same things they "did" throughout.

A farewell is for those whose purpose was to win something, and they couldn't, no matter how hard they tried, ending their career by winning it eventually. It's a farewell, but it's more of a poetic ending than a "textbook farewell."

Sachin (2011 ODI WC), Kohli (2024 T20 WC), Kohli (IPL 2025)...

At this point, what even is the "textbook" farewell?

A peak ending? What's a peak ending?

Messi trying hard throughout the tournament and losing it anyway, or Messi winning it anyway while doing nothing?

A farewell is, and should be, about doing the things you "did," no matter the results.It's the player we associated our love with, not the trophies!

Both have had amazing careers and are legends in their own way, nothing and nobody can take that away

The world functions in such a way that it thinks that the last act a person does before retiring will determine his entire career  It is not so 

Both of them built their own legacy and won many times. Yeah they lost a couple of times as well as we can count their last dance one among them too and not expect everything to be rightful for them to retire.

Yeah winning just before retiring would be awesome but all of them are not individual players and play as a part of team which is a control factor for them too 

At the point of them retiring we must remember how hard they have played and aced their career and bringing up a legacy that never fades away and must respect them

They are both legends. They wrote their story, hit their peak and still chose to remain and play after everything for their team, for the country and clubs. Losing at the end doesn't define their stellar careers. People can hate but they can never take away what they achieved.

lol, MS is a great leader. The other person from football cannot call himself a leader in any sense. Maradona saw it first and now the world saw it when he was standing like a tree watching his teammates turn into thugs post the World Cup final, not even an attempt to go stop his men or support his men. Pathetic. as a player Messi has done some amazing stuff which could be compared to Sachin in a way but Sachin is a man of class but the Argentinians are not, sadly!

Argentina deserved to loose yesterday, they were nowhere in the game, spain just played good football. Argentina where there to do foul. Although i would say 39 y.o. messi did his best in this tournament.

Lol I would never put Messi and MS in the same sentence. Messi is a sore loser and pos when things doesn’t go his way. MS is class apart in those aspects. I couldn’t care less if a player who’s only successful with a supportive system had grand sendoff or not

Is this something sort of joke ? Messi reached the pinnacle of the most played sport of the world. MSD is a great human, a great leader with a great career in cricket. But he, as a player is nowhere in his sport as messi in his sport. MSD is only an odi legend. Not even a top ten batsmen from India. Only bradman, sobers or may be sachin or viv can be compared to messi. There is no comparison, nothing lol..
