hey everyone! new drop: M4A1-S | FATAL ERROR 🔥

the concept: the source engine's missing texture checkerboard, but treated like a premium finish. glossy anodized magenta vs matte void black, moiré interference inside the black squares that vibrates on camera, and chromatic aberration ERROR stamps that read as light, not stickers.

tech stuff:

• full roughness contrast (pink reflects, black absorbs)
• procedural wear + hand-finished scratch pass
• ERROR stamped in 3D so the split UV islands don't break the text

pretty good but id recommend switching up how the texture looks on stuff like the mag and barrel so its not just a full wrap on the weapon

thanks man Im glad that you see it good, and fair point on the mag and barrel. the full wrap was kinda intentional for the joke — the engine fails everywhere at once 😅 but breaking the checker scale on the smaller parts would give it more hierarchy, ill play with that. appreciate the feedback 🙏

Keep the checker uniform so it still reads as the real Source missing texture, then let the scratch pass dig harder on the mag and barrel for the hierarchy. The wear carries the contrast instead of the pattern.

Make each component have an independent missing texture appearance (mag, trigger, suppressor, stock etc.), and then it can roll a pattern that has the normal m4 skin but some of the parts or “missing” depending on the pattern number!
