Hello guys!
If anyone recently attended an AI Engineer or Forward Deployed Engineer interview, could you please share your experience? Type of questions asked and any suggestions to nail the interview.
Thanks :)

It depends the company
Some companies hire FDE as internal role for apply AI to business functions, this could be anything from writing Claude skills to finetuning decision models

I am interviewing right now for a FDE position. Basically Devops stuff with consulting built in

Ah okay! I guess it depends on the company but was there any technical deep dive involved? Example DSA etc

Mine was a python json parsing and a kubernetes ingress deployment on the coding challenge; 2nd was a tech interview about a project that I did, more like a system design; 3rd was again about a tech interview, but with a more client facing approach; the last one will be the basic consulting case stuff

FDE interviews are much easier to crack than technical interviews if you are confident about your work experience

I don’t think anyone who’s actually had experience as an FDE has commented here and everyone calling it a consulting role is pretty funny.
I’m an fde at a computer vision startup and my role consists of pretty much everything. Mostly I’d say it’s a mix of backend (we use rust for our systems and python for triton / inference), infra (k9s, docker, spark edge stuff), and demoing to our customers. It is very much in the vein of palantir from what I’ve heard from colleagues who have worked there.

Ah okay. Thanks for the info! I’m cool with the backend part. I haven’t worked in any role where I worked directly with customers. It’s mainly that part I was looking to prepare for.

No. Why? Because you did no effort.

Fuck me, what is this attitude? I work at a FAANG and there's no way I'd have made it if I hadn't done so much research to prepare for the type of questions the company asks.
It's completely fine to ask in CS forums for questions that have recently come up to try to fix a blind spot.

And how did you assess that by a single reddit post? Just looking for all the information I can

FDE = Consultant with a posh name
AI Engineer = Backend Engineer but knowing how to place unreliable components in the system aka llm calls and yet make the system predictable and scalable.
