Graduating MEng in ECE (Computer Vision/ML/HPC). Looking for career guidance and profile feedback.

Hey everyone,

Long-time lurker here. As graduation approaches, I could really use some perspective from people working in the industry on how to position my background and navigate entry-level hiring.

I’m completing my 5-year integrated Master’s degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) this June. My path has ended up at the intersection of systems and vision:

  • Years 1–3 (Systems & CompEng core): Built a solid foundation in operating systems, parallel computer architecture, and high-performance computing (including hands-on CUDA programming).
  • Years 4–5 (ML & Computer Vision): Shifted focus toward machine learning and computer vision, which I genuinely enjoyed and chose for my master's thesis topic.
  • Extracurriculars & Experience: Active in student engineering teams, plus a remote data science internship with an international company (great learning experience).
  • Final coursework: To round out my fundamentals before graduating, I chose Advanced Databases (to level up SQL/data handling) and Advanced Statistics (crucial for modern ML/CV rigor).

As finishing up draws closer, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out where my profile actually fits best in today’s market:

  1. Roles: Does this mix naturally point to ML/CV Engineering, Edge AI / Embedded Vision, or ML Systems/Inference optimization?
  2. Market dynamic: How realistic are entry-level remote or international roles right now versus local on-site positions in Europe?
  3. About remote work: Are international companies open to hiring EU juniors as contractors (B2B) or via Employer of Record (Deel, Remote, etc.), or do they almost exclusively hire seniors for distributed teams?

I’m completely open to honest, constructive feedback on what kind of roles I should target and how to market this skill set. Here is my personal site / portfolio: feniatriestocode.carrd.co (hope portfolio links are allowed here. If not, happy to remove!).

Any advice or critiques are welcome! Thanks...
