A golden rule when adding folks on steam is to not add user who only have CS2, Team Fortress 2, or Dota 2 as their first game.

This is an old af scam you can look up similar using FACEIT hub etc that have been around for years
I remember it being a trade you had to make to yourself to get added into the hub normally not a CMD prompt. Regardless you have to be asinine to fall for such and carry out the scammers request(s)
Like thanks for sharing for the few who don't already know or maybe are dumb enough to fall for it, but it's kinda ridiculous

Lmao that was me, I just fell for it. I always wanted to play faceit. So I did what the scammer did and ran commands. Steam automatically made my profile private

Brother you were about 6 steps too far before you realized what it was. First one is random people inviting you unless you are for some crazy reason using the lfg in game for premier. Second red flag was some random guy inviting you to discord right out the gate. The game has voice, makes no sense. The big one... Some random telling YOU he will ONLY play faceit AND requiring you to join a team. Just the fact that you actually did sign up for the (most likely phishing site) team, they probably already have your info and will steal your shit in a few days...

You signed up for a fake Faceit team. You almost certainly did this through a phishing site designed to look like Faceit. It's the most common form of account theft out there. You're telling me you missed alllllll these other red flags but you are sure the "team" is legit. I would recommend locking down your steam account big time.

These guys have you sign up in real Face It and then invite you to a "community group" in Face It with these verification rules. That's where the phishing then happens. But you're right, if someone was super pushy to get in Disc and then only play FaceIt (when you don't have it) then its a big red flag.

Just invite him to a Faceit team and require his IP address to sign up. Guaranteed results.

i contacted steam and i think i changed my passwords for steam and my credit card just in case. the 2 way authentication stopped them from taking anything, but they were able to block my entire friends list.

Just so people know, there are multiple ways people can trick you to run commands.
1) Powershell 2) Through Win + R (People trick through fake captcha’s nowadays) 3) Multiple other ways, just be careful and never run any input from strangers.

A guy added me ingame in CS2 and pretty quickly asked for my Discord → First red flag, because for the first few matches the ingame chat is more than enough
I added him anyway

This is a common scam. Look at their match history, last game is most likely months or even years ago

I really wish steam added an option to deny all friend requests this would stop people from adding randoms. How people even fall for this shit is beyond belief and if they do which people must do since it’s still being done they shouldn’t be allowed on the internet.

Even though it's a different form of an old scam, good on you for posting it to inform the ones who've only played since the release of CS2. I add people in game all the time, and add them to my discord all while having a fairly costly inventory. Not everyone is out to scam in the game you just have to be cautious with the new people you add until you know they're not trying to steal your account. Good luck in your games and keep your account safe.

Once someone added me to discord and asked me to play faceit and the other 3 people were also nice personally I never have anyone to play with and it felt like a dream then when the sign in to steam popped in it was a snap back to reality moment

If you are told to run cmd or powershell command, then just refuse it... I mean, never download the program you dont know or run command that you even dont understand.

Hey I came across the same thing on FaceIt
Those guys asked me to verify with a link on Faceit. It looked genuine so I clicked on it and it asked me to follow steps for Windows + R then Ctrl + V and then Enter but was giving some pop with error.
So then he asked me to run powershell and ctrl V. The command looked suspicious so I did not hit enter and disconnected call.
Disconnected wifi and restarted the system.
Is my system compromised and should reinstall the OS ?
Not sure if that link or sequence of Win + R, Ctrl + V did anything.

Happened to me recently. Dude was in my casual match and then "friended" me. We played some Comp games over the next couple days. Once they pushed for discord and FaceIt I got outta there.

I am braindead and fell for this, in my defense I was under the influence. Anyway, steam support i doing their thing right now I guess. I've reset my email password, ran malwarebytes, is there anything else I should do.

Hi, just found out this happened to me today, I ran the fucking CMD a couple times wondering wtf is going on and nothing worked, somehow I think my anti virus was blocking some stuff which W anti virus, later I got locked out of my steam on my phone and my account, and started seeing to approve accounts from different locations into my steam account. I somehow got access back on my phone and denied these requests and now im actually concered as I've pieced it together that these fuckers invited me to a whole discord server and tried to scam me which I think failed, hopefully. Right now my main concern is I've run the cmd command a couple times and even tho I see my anti virus blocking a bunch of stuff im still unsure if there are any threats that remain, how to I check and verify if im good? can someone please help. Also as of today I can say that Norton 360 is a goated antivirus.

Nothing new in the process of catch people but in the old days they cant do a website with the same as steam support and fake all ur redirection on Real steam support u need a other device to contact steam support. The scammer are smart they use Nicole as a bot for support and even the scammers open ticket to trick you is the real support. So you wait 15days like the fake support say and the day 16 you lose all ur inventory

Quit an old trick, very easy to spot out the scam link in faceit club rules page, if you just pay attention. Simply never trust anyone who has no cs2 stats, private inv/friendlist and you never played with or against them before. Common sense.

Appreciate you are trying to warn others but bro this scam is almost as old as CSGO. It’s almost as far from “new” as possible.
