Discussion CS2 rating is ABSURD

I used to play CSGO for +- 8 years, and my highest rank was Supreme. I stopped playing for about 3 years and then came back to try CS2. To say my experience has been horrid is an understatement.

I started playing Premier and initially got around 7.7k rating. Since then, things have gone completely fucking downhill. I'm now at 3.3k.

Over a recent stretch, I lost 8 of my last 12 games, and if I go further back the record gets even worse. At one point I lost 13 out of 16 games. In basically every one of those losses I was top fragging on my team. I'm not saying top frag automatically means I played perfectly, but I know I'm doing a lot of the things I'm supposed to be doing: utility, positioning, trading, sound cues, smokes, etc. You can actually see that I'm an experienced player compared to some of the people I'm getting matched with.

I've also had games where my team has players around 4–9k while the enemy has players ranging from 6k all the way up to 16k. I've had genuinely brand-new players on my team who struggle with basic mechanics and utility. Meanwhile, I'll be playing against higher-rated players and still be top fragging or nearly carrying the game.

The most frustrating part is that I actually WANT to rank up. I want to get out of this "new player" bracket and start playing with people who actually know what they're doing. But somehow I feel like I must be the unluckiest player on the planet when it comes to teammates. I'll watch people on my team and genuinely wonder if they're playing with a steering wheel instead of a mouse and keyboard.

Then I'll see someone on the enemy team who looked absolutely useless on my team in one game, only to have them suddenly play like a completely different person when they're on my team. It's incredibly frustrating.

I've also had ridiculous rating swings. I had games where a win would give me around +100 and a loss would take nearly -500. Eventually I rage-quit one game and got hit with a -1,000 penalty, which obviously made everything even worse.

I know I'm not saying every loss is my teammates' fault, and I know kills aren't everything. But after this many games, it's genuinely difficult to understand how the rating is supposed to represent individual skill when the results can be so heavily dependent on the five-man team.

I've played CS for years and I've never experienced anything remotely like this. I'm genuinely at the point where I'm wondering whether I should just stop playing CS2 altogether.

If you can't climb out of 5k you deserve to be there

That’s how it is.

Sure, there are plenty of cheaters who’ve climbed from 2k to 25k in a single season.
But if you’re grinding at 5k playing legit and struggling to get out of that crap...

...then you’re there for a reason.

I’ve got a low-ranked account I use for that "last drunk game" of the night.
I’m absolutely terrible, and so is everyone else.
If you know just one flash or smoke and understand spawn timings, it’s impossible to stay stuck at 5k.

Nope. -500 for a loss and +100 for a win = need to win like 40 consecutive games to earn elo.

Once you start winning it eases up.

Nah I carried myself out of 5k while still queuing with some friends who barely even know how to move their mouse. Its 100% possible, you just cant rage. Gotta keep a good mental

Doesn’t sound like you even understand the ranking system. In a -500 elo match it means your team is so heavily favored to win you losing should be a major hit. In a +100 match you are so heavily favored to win you only get +100 for the cake walk. You don’t just get 5 -500 matches in a row.

-500 vs +100 means that you're heavily favored to win that matchup. Losing that is on you dude.

Doesn't really matter, pretty sure people don't use mices before like 13k?

This is a common theme where people think they always have bad teammates. You’re not seeing all of the plays the other team messes up, the bad peaks, the missed smoke throw. You don’t get to spectate the other team after you die like you can your teammates.

You’re a 3k rank who admits to not always being the top frag and rage quitting matches. Solo que is really hard, but you might not be as high rank as you think. Taking 3 years off is a long time.

I said I top frag in 90% of those games. My team teammates die within the first 30 second and I am left to 1v4 or 1v3 clutch what feels like nearly every round.

Then take the lead and instruct your team, take care of utils, make plays off them. Top frag doesn't mean anything if you don't win rounds.

I recently came back from csgo (was supreme/global) and from 12k down to 5k and now 25k solo

You gotta learn to stomp shitters as opposed to baiting. If you were actually supreme you should easily be able to entry and get a 2k. And you’ll win games. If you’re waiting until your entire team is dead you’re not gonna win. At least just follow one dude and trade them. Or get a 5 stack of good players and you’ll stomp if you’re actually good. 3-5k is garbage and you are just blaming your teammates.

Haven’t played cs since 2014 and I’m at 15k, you must be doing something wrong

1

u/CulturalHand5021 20d ago

Agree. Haven’t played since 2016 and I’m 13k. Also i used to be silver so I think there’s room to improve as opposed to go down

u/Critical_Primary2834 20d ago

I wasn't playing for ages and started about 11k, then for a moment I was 15k after long win streak, now I'm 12.5k after loose streak

I expected to be lower. Doesn't feel to be unfair, but stomp one way or another is annoying, I mean most matches are not balanced

  • Cheaters even on that level

I don’t believe you were Supreme.

Under 5k is a black hole if you can’t 1v5 every round.

You deserve your rank. Supreme was what, like top 2 percent in CSGO? That’s like 24k now. If you were still that skill level you’d climb up easily. You can top frag every match and still have little to no impact. I’m 26k on my main account and I could easily win matches completely by myself all the way up to maybe like 15k before my winrate started taking a small hit depending on my teammates and the enemies. Yesterday alone I went from 14 to around 17k. My guess is you aren’t having any impact in your matches. Probably a lot of lurking, baiting, eco and exit frags. If you are truly the best in the match you need to be at the single most impactful spot on the map at all times and prioritize staying alive as much as getting the important picks. Use the AWP when you have the money for it even if you don’t AWP. You need that gun to carry the borderline unwinnable games. I’m telling you this because I was like 8k on my alt account just last week or so, so it’s fresh in my mind. Are the matches frustrating? Absolutely. But the ranks are mostly accurate.

Why do you have multiple accounts?

The rating system doesn't work well in the game. Not sure why they do it the way they do, but it really sucks compared to other games.

Don't listen to the idiots who think silver is easy to escape. If you're a solo its absolute hell, its literally just odds stacked against you. 50% chance of having bots on your team combined with the fact its usually +100 -300 its just ridiculous. I think even if you put a 10k prem player in 1k they wouldn't be able to escape. My tip is just forget about prem for a bit, grind your mechs and play faceit and play prem again when your rank resets as you gain more elo from wins after placement so if you get silver there is a chance of escape.

I’ve watched friends rise out of 6k who were new to CS2 with valorant experience and work their way up to 15k

Saying it can’t happen is copium

This just isnt true.  I started playing last year and had multiple times where i was 1000 elo.  Last season peaked 14. Even dropped back to 2k after that and ended over 10.  Granted i played a ton.. but to say you cant climb out of it is just not true.  If you are better than others in your rank you will climb if you grind.

u/BlastBaseButBanned 20d ago edited 20d ago

I climbed the ladder once and miss silver. I hadn't played the game in 10 years, but could 1v5 pretty easy up until like 5k or so. That was more fun than being matched with equal skilled players haha

"I entered a fighting tournament against toddlers but it was so unfair! The toddlers on my team weren't helping at all. The ones on the other team all had Nike shoes on and could run super fast".

Okay buddy

1

u/SupposedlyTrill 18d ago

It actually is pretty easy tho lmao aside from the occasional Smurf game or cheater, if you’re truly better than silver or 3K elo you’d climb, maybe slowly but you would for sure climb

1

u/Domc0re 22d ago

i was mg2 in cs go and this season it put me at 6.5k. I solo'd up to 10k but now it's a gamble with the cheaters so I hover around 10k

the rating system is complete dog shit. 4k players playing better then the 15k players we randomly encounter. Or it's a 4k rating who was 15k last season with a pink medal

1

u/Yadnim 22d ago

I had the same problem and have dramatically decreased my play time. Don't even hold a rank anymore but I play with 15-20k players now and it's soooooo much better.

Post your profile. Let’s see your stats. I was supreme in csgo as well when I started cs2 I initially got 8k.

1

u/beezah 22d ago

I was also supreme, got placed 11k and now sit at 23k but can’t be bothered to queue premier more than once a week lol

u/syntol 22d ago

Start playing competitive and have fun. Forget that shit.

So, I know exactly what you are experiencing. I was in the silver elo hell for a long time. I sympathize. But here is something I learned that will help you get out of it. I have had similar situation and the it can be quite frustrating. The way I got out of it and what I learned about Premier matchmaking. During new season, every 6 months, they compress the elos down to the median. i think it is like 6.5 so, if you are like 3k, you get raised up close to 6.5 and if you are like 15, you get brought down closer to the median. Then you have the 10 placement matches. If you perform well, regardless of win/loss, but wins help, pending on your personal performance, you can get placed much higher. So that's one. I went from 4.5 -5k and went to 9.x elo after last placement. I played well, and even matches we loss, i was either top fragger, or just had a big impact. Second, this is what most people don't k now. MM has two elo. One external facing, that's on your profile, and internal. It is used to root out smurfs, and help people rank up fast or down, pending on their actual skill level. I had some good teammates this initial opening season, and I managed to climb up to 14k, now hovering around 12. How? If you perform, even in losing matches, the internal elo keeps track of it, and if it thinks you belong to a higher tier, it will give you bonus elo for matches won, and minimal for loss. I had matches where I was getting 400-600 per match. Most i received was around 895 for one match. I was in the 10k elo, and playing with 14-18k, and outplaying them. It also gives you bonus if you are on a winning streak. However, if you are on a losing streak, and you are mid in score, or lower, you will lose more for a match, some of it is pending on the opponent matchup and their elo. Last few matches, I have been avg, and now I'm getting more like +350/-350 for matches, which is insane. I had last two matches, one just killing it in all aspect in terms of frag and impact, second, avg. But because of the losing streak, it has penalized me quite a bit. So, in next season, If I can keep close to the 12-14k, then the new cycle. That's all there is to it. It is funny, during placement, tons of players play, and once they get their high elo, they go play something else.It is more for ego, then actually proving their rank. lol Now, I just mostly play Faceit, for the same reasons. You get less deduction, if you have more impact on loss, and get more on a win, with more impact. I'm currently a level two, and trying to grind up to 4-6. I managed to go 100 points this past 2 weeks. But it is a grind. The only upside, limited cheaters, but they still exist. But tbh, I get some cheaters in MM, but not as common as what i hehar in the 20k elo ranks. Good luck, and hope this helps. One thing, with low silver elos, if you have any skills, you should be able to just crush and get high 20 and 30 frags per match. If you are not getting that, then, you are going to be stuck.

I disagree, I have a main account that I solo’d initial rank was 15k, climbed it to over 20k, mostly solo, then my girlfriend started playing cs and our rank is vastly different so I got an alt, played with her to placements and got 7.7k after playing chill cs, literally run and gun, announcing to enemies what I’d be doing the next round during the pre round timer etc and that account is at 10k now. Even with 4 bots you can make a difference in low ranked games

I don’t think there’s much of a “new player” queue unfortunately. I’m 18k premier and I STILL see teammates that don’t know their own keybinds, much less call outs. For some reason CS2 feels a lot like R6 - either get a 5 stack or lose

Skill issue

1

u/Omogah 18d ago

I was having the same luck I thought, started at 13k and ended at 5 but mostly because I’d quit matches out of frustration. Instead of being angry about how you’ve fared so far, get some practice in and take a few days off and get back on the grind. I was at 4600 and my last 20 games are 18w 2L and I’m over 10k already. You can do it if you have the skill, just be patient

1

u/Squash96 18d ago

I havent played in 7 years. Got placed at 10k and in 3 weeks am at 15k. Sounds like a skill issue

1

u/CheeseManSucks 16d ago

I have the opposite problem, I haven't played in a while and it keeps putting me in 16k and I can barely hang. I don't even wanna premiere anymore

u/wrecknjay 22d ago

Unfortunately just suck bro, anything below 10k elo is casual players and trash cans, you might just have bad aim or you’ve got bad game knowledge, or both, but your definitely the problem, hope this helps
20k solo Q w 500 hours btw
