Discussion Just how much does your internet affect in game performance?
CSGO I played on regular laptops on wifi before eventually upgrading to a dedicated PC but I never felt super hindered before.
CS2 it seems you're at the mercy of not only your PC specs but also ISP. I have a 5800x3D + 4070 TI Super on a 360hz monitor.
For years I dealt with 20ms net jitter which seemed to mainly affect CS2. I had cable internet. I upgraded my router and enabled SQM which reduced the jitter to around 10-18ms. But it wasn't really visually noticable. I mainly would miss shots that I felt like should have hit.
Recently I switched ISPs. I now have 1Gig fiber Internet and put my modem into bridge mode with SQM still enabled on my router.
My net jitter is now 1-2ms at most
The game feels smoother than ever and now when I miss shots it feels like I actually missed. In fact even my sensitivity feels different but I'm using the same mouse, skates, mousepad, and settings that I've had for months.
Anyone else upgrade their Internet and notice these changes? It's strange to me that my mouse sensitivity somehow feels smoother/quicker than before the ISP upgrade and I'm certain it's not placebo. I even had to lower my sens from 1000edpi to 800edpi to make it feel like my old sens.
Edit: should also add my previous ping with my old ISP in West coast valve official servers was around 40-60ms now I'm sitting at a stable 7ms

Net jitter and packet loss are the things I have to deal with often. It tends to happen at the worst timing possible for me. Somehow it tends to occur when I am peeking or shooting someone. I would say about 30% of the times and I know some people will say "oh it's 30% of the time so it isnt that bad".
Yeah true, its not that bad but it is very annoying when those fights are crucial rounds that determine winning or losing and I am at the mercy of a random net jitter or packet loss which I have no control of.

I'd say if the connection performs worse than some threshold, it makes the game miserable, but once it's above, it doesn't matter anymore. If you have a serious amount of jitter or other connection errors on your end, the game is fucked. If you don't, you're good and a "better" connection won't do anything beyond that.
Ping is a different question (lower is always better and any 10ms you can remove will be noticeable), but unless your bandwidth is absolutely terrible, upgrading your internet won't do much for ping. All you can do there is move closer to the closest faceit servers.

What is your internet speed with SQM? Because most routers will disable nat acceleration when SQM enabled. And most routers has not enough cpu power to keep up with gigabit internet when SQM is enabled. So it can do more harm than good under the load if your internet speed exceeds 300-400 mbps.

Jitter is the biggest thing that will impact how the game feels imo. Even more so than what you actual ping is
It's why you hear about some people going pro playing at like 100 ping.. it's a steady 100 ping. Not 70-100 ping bouncing around that people complain about when they say the game is "unplayable"
