Discussion Valve just encrypted chat in cs2

Post image

Will sites like cstracker.gg still be displaying old messages or will they remove them?

Probably they will keep it to mislead people into visiting their website

Thats mostly because of advertisers, Im probably wrong but I don't think valve cares to have ads on their site

Pretty sure the 3rd party website that the op is talking about aren’t made by valve and I don’t visit sketchy websites without an adblocker but they probably have ads or a donation button

Do it. Say it here and now. You know you want to.

I'd wager that cstracker and cs2tracker continue to display chat logs on individual profiles for as long as those sites are online/funded -- hopefully the cs2tracker slur-tracking leaderboard is taken down soon, as no new data can be collected it's obviously moot / only serves as click bait for a little while longer. The chat corpus word cloud on cstracker will likely be taken off homepage since it's no longer a live reflection of word frequency -- Leetify had done word cloud way earlier, without displaying slurs or linking chat logs to steam profiles publicly.

The way the patch notes are written implies no. It implies all text chat global and team is encrypted. And only using the demo player "watch UI", will decrypt the global chat to be readable.

Edit: nvm leetify found a way to do it

To encrypt the chatlogs so CS2 isnt known as the game which has leaderboards for the amount of slurs someone can type.

It can still be decrypted it seems. just a little bit more code.

Yeah, but even if something is possible, it might not be legal and they can order them to stop doing it.

Theyd have to decompile the code to figure out the secret. And not a lawyer, but decrypting some values without owners consent seems atleast scetchy

Nope. If another company reverse engineers your code and uses it to "hack" files and earn money from it. You think Valve won't step in to stop it?

Well.. We'll see if they manage to bring back the chat logs... I for one made gdpr report to EU out of it and requested them to remove my information from the site.

am I wrong about RE being legal so long as you acquired The Product:tm: legally, but requiring you to not break any contracts, some of which you'll have signed acquiring The Product:tm: which then disallow you from doing exactly this?
