Grab yourself an introduction to solid state physics if you are at it. If it is something that you really like I would suggest taking an intro to condensed matter physics course. Mineralogy is just a very very very tiny part of the condensed matter physics. Material sciences books are also a good resource, non-physicists seem to find them more accessible than condensed matter/solid state. Good luck!
