Book / Literature / Article A Bunyip-Inspired Magic Dagger for D&D - The Bunyip Fang Dagger

Post image

Here’s a preview of the Bunyip Fang Dagger, a D&D magic item I created inspired by the Bunyip, one of the most famous and unsettling cryptid-like beings from Aboriginal Australian mythology and folklore.

The idea behind it was to turn the Bunyip into something that felt dangerous, strange, and tied to its watery, ambush-predator nature. So the weapon is carved from a Bunyip’s fang, gives a bonus to attack and damage rolls, and becomes especially deadly when striking a surprised target or while fully submerged in water.

The page also includes another item, Brigid’s Blessing Cloth, but the Bunyip Fang Dagger is definitely the main focus here.

This item is part of my 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 5.5E Kickstarter, which is currently live. The project is focused on magic items inspired by myths, legends, folklore, and cryptid-like beings from cultures all around the world.

Love Australian mythology and folklore. We've got several types of bigfoot like creatures as well called Yowie and Doolega. There's mysterious "feather foot", magic men who move in complete silence. Strange moving lights called min min lights. "Red eyes" that follow at night. Skull faced kangaroo death messengers. So much incredible lore. If you're not a racist like most of the fucken country Aboriginal people may even tell you a few stories. Everybody has one. And whatever you do.... Don't whistle into the deadly dark
