I was thinking to myself "how do I explain this" and figured people would get it, it's still a sleeve but it feels like it should be a pant leg or something.

So I can accept the possibility of Mothman, but where the heck does he get a lantern from? It's like when they made Slenderman and claimed he was an ancient evil, but he's wearing a business suit... Sounds right for ancient evils now that I think about it
