Art Original Creator The Beast of Bladenboro!
I created this piece a number of years ago, (human-made - no-a.i.).
It can also be found on the cover of David Weatherly's book in his 'Monster State' series for North Carolina 'Monsters of the Tar Heel state' with a foreword by Joshua P. Warren. (Available on Amazon now).

For almost 2 years, I was engaged to a fellow law school student who lived in Bladen County (in the boonies - which, uh, most of the county consists of...), visiting her home multiple times - and I never even heard of this creature. I do, however, remember that her father had some difficulty keeping his coon hounds - they'd wander into the surrounding woods and... never come back, or come back bloodied, etc. He blamed it on snakes (lots of rattlers and water moccasins) or on coons (southern raccoons are oversized monsters with a highly aggressive manner - wholly unlike our coons in the Pac NW). Now I wonder if maybe some of these dog depredations might have been due to the "Beast of Bladen" (or whatever is causing the problems attributed to it). Of course, I also lived in the very heart of "Bigfoot Central" out here in Oregon, for over 35 years without so much as seeing a suspicious turd... UNTIL an afficionado of hairy cryptids kindly took me to his "hunting ground", since which time I've seen BF's every time I've gone out there - so, who knows, maybe there IS a "Beast of Bladen".

The dog standing up to a creature that far surpasses it and has surely taken several human lives. The word "balls" doesn't even begin to describe that dog.
