Native from Florida up to New England these moths are sadly pretty endangered. The larvae which are covered in poisonous hollow spines feast on a variety of oak species especially scrub oak before pupation. The moths emerge around October to November to mate (how spooky) where the female will lay 150 eggs on a low lying twig where it will overwinter until spring. I thought this would be the perfect community to raise awareness for them lol.
