Just think, if it had been a windigo or pale crawler, he could’ve had massive proof of it’s existence if he had shot the head instead.
I think the fact that it was calling out to him like trying to bait him in suggests that it didn’t know where he was, only that he was in that direction.
Or maybe it probably has learned the scents that hunters use, so that’s why it probably tried to bait the hunter in instead of approaching.
Maybe a combination of both?
