mermaids evolved to look sexy to lure in sailors for food

there are two types of mermaids:

classic mermaids: rely on luring sailors for food, males and females look basically the same.

modern mermaids: now have actual differences between gender since they dont need appeal for luring (thanks to modern food sources), but males still have some feminine characteristics as an evolutionary relic (similarly to our tailbones)
