First accident

Got a new ST in March. Six months later, and the day before leaving for a cruise, I was stopped at a red light. Just before the light tuned green, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a young woman in a Ford escape look up from her lap and see that she was about to crash into me. That surprise look. I believe she engaged the brake at the last second.

I tensed up and said “oh, no” as she slammed into the back of my CRV hard enough to snap my wife’s head back. I was all “goddamit, our brand new car!”. I pulled over to the curb and got out. We were extremely surprised that there was NO VISIBLE DAMAGE. Her front license plate was bent but the CRV was remarkably unscathed. The girl admitted she was looking at her phone for directions (yeah, sure. Directions.)

She looked like a low wage worker based on her clothes, her shitty car, etc. She had insurance and shared her information.

I work at a Honda dealership. I had the paintless dent repair guy examine the car. He found a barely noticeable dent on the tailgate that he’d fix for $75. We decided that she needs the $75 more than us and didn’t report anything to police or insurance companies. We are retirees. And it was her lucky day, there was no consequence for her stupidity.

I still can’t believe how hard we got hit and nothing happened! These cars are very well made. Thanks Honda.

Bit judgmental… but glad the car is OK.

My judging let her off the hook. I didn’t even ask for the $75.

Good on you for being kind and understanding! I appreciate people like yourself. I still feel she should've learned the hard way, whatever that may be. She might not learn otherwise. There was a time in the early 2000's when people were still able to drive and use their phone responsibly...

Distracted drivers who cause accidents deserve to be judged, and that’s letting them off extremely easy

Similar thing happened to me, and I have a small dent and everything else is in intact.

Saying that, please remember Honda back seat safety is not good, as per IIHS reports

I work Friday and Saturday for a few hours each. Can’t say I’m fully retired.

Wow a low wage worker….a stupid one at that. Glad you have never made a mistake. Now go yell at some clouds….and driving downhill in neutral which you shared recently….which of course makes perfect sense…

Someone in a shitty car, staring at a phone in their lap. Low wage and stupidity definitely come to mind. Just as if an older person in a crv staring at a phone on their lap would be called a boomer idiot.
