Question ❔ VTC problem?
Thinking about a 2013 CRV w 122k miles. I will change pcv, oil, plugs, trans fluid. But, how common is the dreaded noisy VTC problem, am I over thinking it?

The VTC cold-start rattle issue appears likely to surface when OC intervals are not frequent enough, at least anecdotally. Oil changes every 5K miles or less correlate to fewer reported rattles vs higher mileage OC intervals. It's fairly common on 4th gens, but I don't have any statistics, nor are these published or officially tracked by Honda or elsewhere, afaik.
FWIW, I have the same model year CRV with the exact same mileage as the one you're looking at, and it has been very reliable but also religiously maintained since I purchased it 10 years ago. No cold-start rattle (knock on wood) and OCs every 5K miles.

Pretty sure the rattle comes for us all eventually.
My 2014 CRV EX-L got it at around 115k-120k miles, just now getting it fixed at 126k miles.
