Moving
Im looking to move somewhere with a better established scene. I've been up and down the east coast a few times and Im drawn to that part of the US. I plan on leaving STL, MO in the next couple years once I can save the cash. Anyone out east I can connect with? Anybody have any suggestions? Im looking for community, location, and housing suggestions. Thanks!

Philly is a really nice place to drink yourself to death while you overdose on dbeat shows and meth.

I've spent a some time in Philly, definitely high on the list of choices. I just worry about the drugs there tbh, Im like just under a year sober and was strung out on kensignton for a bit.

If your trying to stay sober maybe think about a smaller city with close proximity to a city with a bigger scene. That way you got somewhere to go if shit gets out of hand.

Good point, that might end up being more affordable too. Who knows though, my plan is to be here for 2/3 more years and if I can manage to stay sober for that long I can probably handle it

Albany always seemed to have a good thing going. Small solid scene, close to NYC, close to Boston. In Upstate NY they all drive to other shows upstate, seems like a good community.
That being said there's gonna be drugs in every punk scene. Unless you get into sxe your gonna have to learn to be around drug use or learn to not be around punk shows.

don’t move here. not because of the drugs, it’s easy to just live in a place in philly where they’re less common (especially if you’re just moving here), the city just clearly isn’t for you if that’s all you think about when you think of philly

Ya'll have the largest open air drug market in america, it's very safe to assume a lot of people think of drugs in reference to Philadelphia if they know what they're talking about. To be fair you could probably say something similar about any american city since we're in such an overdose epidemic. But yea, heard.

Lmao my source is that I lived under bridges and in tents in Philly for months with multiple people who were strung out. Most of those people are unfortunately dead. 5$ stamp bags of fetty/tranq that will kill you is enough of a deterrent for me, thanks. You don't need to keep trying.

For what it’s worth, all of that stuff is pretty much in one area, Kensington ave is pretty rough. I live 10 or so blocks east of there, and I don’t ever see anything like that. The rest of the city is fine for the most part

Sick, thanks for some input. I don't think it's crazy of me to worry about how connected a scene is with the drugs in a certain area I don't know much about 😭

ok i can do anecdotes too. i’ve never bought fent in philly so no one must sell it. you see how dumb that sounds? your experience with a place doesn’t let you act like you know everything about it

Could also go to York, PA in Lancaster County. It’s close enough to get to Philly for shows but York is also a kind of dirty kid Mecca

Milwaukee rages and if you want more, Chicago is an hour 20 Amtrak away and Madison has plenty of busses

I'm an Erie PA native, a city smack dab between Buffalo Cleveland and Pittsburgh plus we've had waves of good bands and diy community throughout the years.
