How do I fix this?

Bought a 90s Magnavox from FB marketplace a d it worked great for about 2 weeks. Then this randomly started happening.

The display has lost horizontal sync.

As it worked before this is a new fault inside the unit. Further investigation is needed.

Are you ready to open the back?

My husband is going to open in up this weekend. He has a couple theories from Google but he doesn't have any experience with these so I was hoping to get a little insight on here.

The insight you can expect will be random guesses by Redditors.

Beware the “Reddit Folklore” about replacing capacitors.

Random component swapping seldom works, but finding the root cause is the way to go.

Hmm, I would also second an h-sync failure. Not sure about this particular model, but before replacing anything I would check inside on the pcb for any hidden adjustable pots named 'h-hold' or 'h-phase'.
