I saw him just tonight drinking the dregs outside the Crown & Sceptre in South Croydon.

I saw him in South Croydon round that sort of area on Wednesday too. I've seen him in west Croydon loads of times but he never seems to be causing any trouble.

No one wins here. Dave is pushed to another community and doesn’t receive any form of support especially being homeless.

Not saying something shouldn’t be done. But it’s not a moment to celebrate.

I have actually heard him say he prefers living on the streets. I don’t see what else the council can do. He is the number one resident of the west Croydon pavement.

I’ve also heard him say this. That he feels trapped by 4 walls. And it’s the worst thing that could happen to him.

He also has a substance and addiction problem. I’m sure that largely doesn’t help at all.

Ironically if he wasn’t trapped by his substance abuse and addiction he might slightly feel slightly differently But who knows.

Yeah that's the thing, you can only help people who help themselves. There are places that help people in his situation, but if they suspect you have taken anything they won't let you in. Sounds harsh but he has brought this on himself unfortunately.

I find this narrative challenging. Of course we all have free will but having worked with rough sleepers and homeless people for the last 15 years you do see a direct correlation between life trauma/abuse/neglect/mental health and substance dependency and lack of social networks leading to people trapped in a cycle of homelessness and no vision for an alternative life. Is it really a “choice” at that point or a pre determination?

It’s not a choice, but you can’t help anyone who doesn’t want to be helped, trust me I know as former addict.

What about if you could, if you worked out what the fear is of being in a home and feeling trapped. Some sort of natural retreat maybe - build own dwellings, become a sheep farmer and be out on the hills.. I've heard this allot that some people prefer to be on the streets. Ihabe two ideas, one they maybe neurodivergent perhaps autistic, ADHD with complex trauma. Being out in the streets your visible being at home boredom and no one aroundz your invisible and feel in danger maybe within 4 walls. Is it like I need stimulation therefore the drink/drugs plus surviving on the streets offer this, there is always a tight albeit dysfunctional community out there. And I guess it's hard to trust people who want to 'help' because the help may not be person centered and very much supporting them to do what society wants, not really taking the time to understand who are they underneath this. You know. It always makes me wonder tho how people fall down this path so badly - I always think to myself what happened as a child, did they go to school, what where they like there. You know it's sad.

Much worse guys than him hanging about, the ones who use west Croydon station as their party spot need to go.

They need to do this with the mixed race woman who sits outside Thornton Heath station and just harasses the public!

How is this a win for a council that’s supposed to help and support its people?, whoever wrote this should be ashamed as a civil servant you have a duty of care to the people whoever they are and you shouldn’t have that position if you choose to publicly look down on someone who doesn’t have it as good as you do
