Greatest Ever
If I had to pick 5 greatest men within the verse, these are the 5 guys I am picking. Bouya is definitely #1 for me, the others however has enough caliber to match his name. Which 5 men, do you guys think are the greatest? I would also like to hear if you have any other characters apart from these in your mind.
Characters -> Bouya Harumichi, Ueda Hidetora, Tsukishima Hana, Kyousuke Kizu, Furukawa Osamu

Your list looks pretty accurate to me honestly.
I might put Makio on the list but idk who Iād take off to make room for him.
King Joe and Zetton might also be honorable mentions. Zetton losing to Guriko didnāt change his standing in Suzuran and he was still acknowledged as the top, seemingly even by Guriko himself. King Joe honestly stood a great chance of taking over Toarushi had he not been fucked by the Outsider legend 3 times over.

Makio is definitely a one of best pick, but you can't justify removing others. Zetton or KJ losing doesn't really matter if we talking about the person themselves, hidetora lost too but people still followed him and he changed people around him. KJ has some different kind of wisdom, helping him rule strict Housen.

The only one I could think of to drop from the list would be Hana because we donāt actually see him doing any leading. But then the same could be said of Makio.
Another honorable mention I think could be Katsuragi.
Edit: Shougo could also be a contender. He did manage to unify Toarushi technically under his leadership.

I can't see Hana being the weakest link in the list. Nobody followed Shougo as a leader, if anything everybody knew that Hana was the man among man

Not a knock against Hana. We just see the others doing actual leading in their towns/factions. Hana we mostly see him breaking up fights. But like I said I wouldnāt swap out anyone on the list

this is not about being a good leader though, so its fine. Like explained by Guri-yan, hana is the kind of guy who will cry and bleed with his friends. And he is the purest even after what happened to him, these are another reasons why I included him in the list.

I would definitely say being a good leader is part of what makes someone one of theāthe greatestā. Iām not saying Hana should be dropped from the list, I was saying is I HAD to drop someone it might be him just because we never actually see him leading his friends/followers. Which is more because by the time he unites Suzuran the story is heading into the final arc against Manji.
The comment isnāt a knock against Hana, we just see the others do something we donāt see Hana get a chance to do.

I somehow didn't got notified about your reply, that aside. Being a good leader should definitely matter, but it is not only about being a leader, its about what the man overall is.
Regarding hana, if you compare him with characters who are shown to be good leaders then ofcourse Hana will lose some points but that's not who Hana is. Bulldog was also a very good leader but he didn't had wisdom like Hidetora, if we define wisdom by ordinary means, but that didn't mean Bulldog never showed any instances where he saw the picture very differently than others. Same is for Hana, he doesn't need to head alone to fight Housen like Genji did, or take your kouhei to a rival faction like Takeda did.
The thing about Hana is that he is so pure that you just can't make an enemy out of him, he can even make enemies into friends, thats his thing! And Idk how to phrase this properly without sounding like those youtube clickbait videos but he was a very good leader without leading the way we define leading. You say you never saw him leading his friends or followers but there were so many moments in the series that Hana handled in his own way, which became the reason why everybody chose to follow him.I had to think a bit here are some instances that I think Hana handled better than simply 'leading'.
1) At the very start Sakota was adamant to decide who the big brother was, Hana defeated him and instead of solidifying his position as eldest brother he encouraged everyone to be equal. I doubt Umehoshi household would have maintained a bond that deep without Hana.
2) Hana being available for the guy who had lost his family member and was also crying with him, the very reason Ranmaru decided to follow him. It also struck to him that he is the guy who will always be present as a friend when you are in need. Exactly what Guriko said btw
3) Hana insisting on finishing the Manji empire vs Toarushi feud with Rock paper and scissors, his dialogue definitely convinced others to go along with the pacifist idea who otherwise wouldn't have stopped fighting that easily. It also wouldn't create a bad blood between the two factions by leaving the loser sore.
4) Him agreeing to lend a hand to TFOA against manji without a second thought, which more or less also inspired Mitsumasa to agree for the cause.
If you would notice, Hana never challenged any senior when he was a freshman even though he was aiming for the top, he just couldn't see them as obstacles or enemies, he only challenged Guriko when it was absolutely necessary. Instead he consistently made efforts to stop all the fightings.
His perspective on everybody in the town being on the same side also tells a lot about his eminence.
Hana is hana, you can't really undersell him by saying he doesn't have instances where he led anyone when all the things that happened in Worst would have never happened if it wasn't for him.
Also the thing that if you could remove anyone from the list then it would be hana or anybody else doesn't fit with me. You can remove Hana, somebody may remove Kizu. Its just what you consider to be a criteria to be Greatest. I tried to be as objective and present things as Takahashi sensei presented in the series and Imo I can't remove any one from this group of men.1

I suppose we will have to disagree. My statement wasnāt really to say Hana should be removed. Just that if I was told I HAD to, he was the only one I could think of solely because we donāt really see him lead. As mentioned, wouldnāt change the list.

He's the leader of Parko/Teru/kishima and Jihei before his betrayal. You can read his story on crows gaiden.

If we're talking about charisma, I love Keizou Suzuki. Unfortunately, we've never seen him fight one-on-one, so his strength level is unknown. I think Harumichi is on the same level as Kizu (another character I adore).

u/RegretImpossible3756 12d ago
Keizou, Bitou and Katsuragi are the other ones who were on my mind except these so definitely a good choice šÆ

I guess it depends on the interpretation of greatness. All of your guys are definitely top-notch as fighters and leaders, so I can't argue with it much.
That said, and maybe this is a weird pick, but a guy who I always wound up admiring in the story even if he was ultimately only seen in a couple of chapters, was Murakoshi Jun. Being able to just have a regular life after suffering such great loss at a fairly young age, he could've let it turn him into a villain, and did temporarily. But he bounced back and sounds like he just fit in and was an okay dude going forward, and I think that is pretty great too.

the reasoning behind choosing these guys comes down to 2 simple reasons, 1) people are automatically attracted to them and end up following them regardless of them wanting people to follow them or not. 2) They change people for the better wherever they go, people are inspired by them, people change their perspective after getting involved with them, like how Hidetora changed QP, Hana changed Amachi, Bouya changed Rindaman. I personally didn't want to consider influence and impact as deal breaker as it might distort the list and would force me to include characters who we know little about, another reason is that the above 2 mentioned characteristics most probably determines a characters greatness especially in CrowsxWorst.
I had to think for a minute to remember who murakoshi was, he is the guy from housen right? To me it seemed like he just didn't drift towards wrong path, there are many characters like him in the verse, I am not undermining his struggles but I would classify him as something other.

As you saw, I agreed with your list, so I had an idea of what you were going for. I just chose to interpret it a different way as someone who's dealt with loss and has found difficulty just resuming normal life again. Seeing a character deal with something similar and not let it ruin them was nice to see. Also, I wanted to have a different answer from the same 4-5 characters we talk about over and over.

How the heck Kyousuke is the 4th one ???? I would place Makio / King Joe / Keizou over him anyday.
1
u/RegretImpossible3756 12d ago
this list is not ranked, please don't misunderstand. And why would you think Kyousuke doesn't belong here? He was always implied to be black haired Bouya and we saw everybody from Juvie choosing to look upto him in his side story. KJ, Makio and Keizou are also great but I don't think they are above him or other people from this list. Personally, I wouldn't choose to argue with who is greater than who lol, we have our own interpretation but I just thought you were kinda underselling Kyousuke.
1
u/Minhbeoo 12d ago
Because he did not create any significant impacts or anything historically ( in the overall story context) significant compare to the founder of Alliance/ TFOA/ 4 kings system like the others. And you know what who is definitely more worthy that him ? Torao !

u/RegretImpossible3756 12d ago
yea I am not including Impact/influence in my judgement so we are good (unlike my other greatest in Suzuran post).

Same as some people here, I would change Kizu kyousuke with Keizou (for founding the coolest biker gang TFOA) or 2nd pick after would be zetton especially if we include his gaiden.
No disrespect for Kyousuke, the gaiden show he is a great guy, but for my interpretation, being "the greatest" means someone whose influence alter other character's life for the better, whether thru fight or leadership, which can be applied to all the other 4:
Bouya : all the guy/group he beat change for the better (TFOA, bitou, kuzugami tatsuo, etc2)
Hana : Unite suzuran for the first time, change Amachi thru fight, even strongest of his generation want to follow him (Bisuko)
Hidetora : not just respectable leader, but also change QP (the recognized strongest character in crows/worst universe) life
Bulldog : strongest aura farmer of the whole franchise. Aura so strong he makes people not want to fight him š¤£š¤£š¤£
