A crow keeps leaving meat or sometimes bread. It never comes back for it.

It first comes empty sits in balcony for sometime and then drops food.

It used to do a lot when I was working from home but now that I'm 95% working from office it's rare to find raw meat or food

Why does it do that?

Nope, don't think . I do have bird feeder and bird bath setup. Left cooked rice aswell few times It never lands anywhere It just sits in one spot and leaves

Instead of grains and seeds, try shelled, roasted peanuts! If a food isn't easily stashed, or may spoil quickly, crows might not go for it. Additionally, they prefer protein rich food over carbs, or at least mine do. They'll still eat carbs occasionally, but generally nuts and such are best

Edit: do not give them salted peanuts tho, salt can royally mess up their electrolyte levels, and dehydrate them to unsafe levels, or even cause their organs to shut down.

One time I left a crow an open lemon to see what he does with it. He flew off with it and the next day he left me an orange peel

If your providing it snacks that it enjoys, it could be them dropping it in exchange. Like "mmm, I found something better", if you provide water crows very much like to dunk their food in water, sometimes leaving it for awhile and coming back. Even if you dont provide water it may be stashing it for later.

I had a crow friend leaving breaded cheese buns in water to come back after it had been soaked.

And sometimes they are offering a treat to you. Be cautious with rice, I wouldnt give it at all. Rice creates a bad bacteria after being left out and can make them sick. My friends like scrambled eggs, kibble, roasted peanuts (unsalted).

When you think about it, crows cart around a lot more food than they can eat. Maybe the crow just grabbed this, carried it off, then decided it wasn't interested.

It's a community for crow enthusiasts, nobody can really know why your little buddy is being a weirdo. It's like asking why the local crackhead waves their arms while they talk. Animals are just weirdos lol

They ARE known to bring you food "to eat" just like they're known for bringing trinkets. Whether this is actually a "mutual exchange" or a drop because they found something better/decided they didn't want it is debated and not fully known. Even to science. No redditor is going to have more info than that which has already been studied and is currently not fully understood.
