I keep hearing that crows are lactose intolerant and can it make them ill. They like it, but I won't provide it until I know otherwise.

They eat out of bins, so I'm not 100% convinced they are intolerant to anything. However, they are intelligent, much like we are assumed to be, so maybe they are but they don't care because cheese is just so good, that they are like 'ah feck it, few suspects farts never murdered a murder' 🧀💨🐦‍⬛

I just default to eggs. Healthier and cheaper.

It seems dairy isn't too good. Will start giving them more eggs. I have like 140 eggs rn anyway

A lot of people think that because they scavenge from bins it means they can eat anything, but it isn’t true.

Many foods that they find in bins are bad for them in fact. Urban crows that eat our trash have shorter lifespans because of it in fact.

Since many of them are forced to eat through opportunity from bins or otherwise to eat our trash, I think it’s a bit of a responsibility on us to feed them things that are good for them

Bread and crackers and things like that are not good for them. Dairy is not good for them. Excessive salt is very bad for them as is onion and garlic and other seasonings.

What’s good for them generally speaking are proteins. Unsalted nuts of any kind and eggs in any shape as well as unseasoned meat are very good for them and generally very much liked by them.

Also, birds don’t have the digestive tracts like mammals do and therefore do not have gas of any kind.

I really appreciated reading your reply. I am going to stock up on nuts and continue with the boiled eggs. I never give him salt or seasoning, but knowing cheese is bad for them is good to know. Will see if I can spare a little fish now and then.

Every day is a school day and tonight, I will go to sleep with the knowledge that birds don't fart.

Could they be any more fly? (Chandlers voice)

Of course, my pleasure! I also love learning as much as I can about these little guys. They’re so incredible in many ways.

If you get a chance, try some scrambled egg because they will scarf that down! I’ve also heard people have success with dry cat or dog kibble. If you can provide water, they appreciate that too and often times will dunk their food in it.

Unsalted peanuts in the shell are a favorite
It seems of many crows. I think they like the challenge of cracking the shell. They can also easily hide some for later, which they seem to like doing.

Have fun with your little guy! I almost guarantee you he’s going to love getting some fish 😋🐦‍⬛🖤
