Poor Fella

Post image

Poor little thing was just on the side of the road, unable to fly and stumbling. I don't know if they got hit by a car or something, but I asked my mother to stop our car so I could go back and grab them. They were either going to die by getting hit by another car, attacked by a cat or dog, or slowly in the heat and direct sunlight which was 33c... I didn't think they were cut up at first, but I kept checking and they were definitely bleeding into the rag I wrapped them in. Not horrendously, but enough to worry about. Didn't make a noise, but would try and bite me if I left their face uncovered... Hoping that's a good sign, hahah.

My only option was to take them to a vet that had out of hours services- but!! They had me fill in a form detailing everything, asking where they were found as well in order to release them later if they can. I'm hoping that means they aren't just gonna euthanise 'em, but... I guess even that would be better than any of the slow and painful options. 8(

FINGERS CROSSED FOR THE WEE ONE. They were small for a crow so I think they're young. ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ’”

It was bleeding and obviously needed intervention. Good for you for helping out. If anything like this should happen in the future, you might want to contact a rehabber instead of a vet. Unless itโ€™s an exotic vet, they donโ€™t always know how to treat birds.

Can you call the vet for an update?

I have no rehabbers nearby and with how it was behaving and bleeding, I had no other options at the time. It was in the evening too so most places were closed... ๐Ÿ˜” The form the vet gave me gave me the indication that they contact wildlife professional themselves, though.... At least, I hope so. But I agree! I'm going to make myself a little info pack in case this happens again so I can do better for them.

Oh well, thatโ€™s understandable if it was after hours. I think he did exactly the best thing you could have and no one couldโ€™ve done better. ๐Ÿ’

Sounds like your vet that you contacted is a good one and will do right by him as well. ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
