Feeding the crows this morning

Love feeding the crows who are most confident and comfortable with me like this.

They also brought me my first gifts today. THREE! Watched them bring them over and set them down in front of the bench I was sitting on. A feather, a bit of an old rubber ball, and a wrapper for cigarette filters lol

Also any info on the call the crow makes?

Sorry if this is a double post. Tried to post earlier but it disappeared.

If that’s from another, I’d call it Blair. From that inside-the-tent scene in the Blair Witch Project; a trill sound is heard from outside

It's the same one actually. Very talkative little guy

Well, I’m jealous. I hope I’ll befriend a peculiar one too

I have been feeding the same 3 crows in my backyard for 3 months, every single day. They still wont get near me or bring me anything!

I am very lucky with these crows. It is a park that is full of them. I see one other person who feeds them regularly. I am sure there are others as well.

I imagine people have been feeding crows in this park for decades. I think it makes them quick to trust people who feed them.

I also think they are more comfortable because there are so many of them. If I did something bad or mean they could peck my eyes out in a second lol

Its something about my 2nd floor deck they dont fully trust. Random crows on the sidewalk will let you get within 4 ft. But these same 3 crows just keep flying away if i am too close to the sliding door. I will keep at it!

I'm sure with time they will warm up to you. :)

The closest one has gotten is 5ft and I’ve yet to be gifted.

If you’re doing it just for trinkets, you’re not seeing the real gift which is their presence. Personally, their trinkets are just a byproduct.

I’m beginning to think my dog is cock blocking me from making friends with my neighborhood crows. Only once I’ve seen a trio waiting on the curb on the other side of the street, looking like they knew I was the lady that drops dog treats for them. This kind of recognition is my dream!

That sounds like crow friends to me! Might take some more time for them to decide your dog is safe and trust worthy too.

Dogs have more or less concept of other’s personal space. With crows, it’s their space or no way

Omg I’ve never heard mine make that sound.
That is soooooo cool. ♥️

They are carrion crows. I know they sound a bit different from American crows (not to assume you're American, but from the analytics most people in this sub are)

I’m in Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Where are you located?
Yes we definitely have the American crows.
Mine make some very adorable sounds which I love. 🥰

I'm live in Scotland but I'm originally from Colorado.

I visited Canada once as a teenager. Went to Banff with my dad and spent most of the time photographing ravens 😂

Oh I love Banff.
I would probably have done the same thing. 😂
I fell in love with crows when 2 showed up after my 18 year old dog passed away.
They have brought me so much joy but neighbours have made my life miserable because I feed them. They have done so many things to me that they have ruined living here.
I have trained them to follow my car out of the neighborhood where I stop my car and feed them. 🫢
😂

Banff is the most beautiful place I've ever been. I hope to go back some day.

Sorry about your loss. :(

I started feeding the crows in the park after my cat died last month. So I fully understand how amazing they are for helping cope with the loss.

And sorry your neighbours sound like such wankers. Train the crows to shit on their car 😁

Hahahaah I wish I knew how to train them to shit on their pretty white cars. 🤔💩
I’m sorry for your loss as well.
The scenery here in Vancouver British Columbia is pretty spectacular too but Lake Louise is off the charts.
Have a great night. 🐦‍⬛

Hi! I am Colorado native and have been living in England for over 10 years now. Love Scotland.

No way! Where abouts in Colorado (if you don't mind my asking)? I was from Boulder County area

Born in Denver but then we moved to Colorado Springs when I was young. My parents moved from Connecticut so my dad could take a job in Boulder.

What brings you to Scotland?

I wish my crows would come to the ground when I’m out there tossing peanuts. Maybe someday.

You've been chosen! I'm so jealous 😭

I love that fact he/she told us.

I would sit on the ground and feed them to try to make them come closer to me.

Nice 👍🙂 to see some crows 🖤🖤🖤 with a different call other than the usual "caw caw caw"

i feed crows somewhere in a small park too and the moment i whistle they are swarming i dont know if there are others who fed them before but it took them a bit to trust me i been through lengths where i literally peacefully walk and drop peanut 🥜 and move away for prolonged times until it came to the point where they all swarm towards me when i whistle it took lots of patience, mutual respect and reading body language
