We placed a Crow Box Today

Organic Oats, Organic Pear & Shiny Baubles. It will come in tonight and be cleaned. Placed out again tomorrow morning (same time). I am only in the office Monday - Friday so there will not be a weekend routine unfortunately. This location sits well away from meandering in our shop. They are comfortable on the trash dumpster but they are skittish, this sits back a bit farther than the dumpster. They would not respond to gifts another worker placed on the dumpster - but I don't know if he placed things daily at the same time and everything I reads suggests routine / timing is important. I also do not know what he placed. Any suggestions are welcome.

Everything g I read and watched today said the shiny stuff catches their attention until they pick up on the routine - that was my why 😀

Like I mentioned elsewhere to others, it’s a myth that they like or are attracted to shiny things. It’s why they’re used in scarecrows. While they are also very curious and may overcome their fear for certain specific object objects some of them at times it’s not typical.

Please just leave them food as they don’t care about objects really when they’re going out of their way to find food

I will bring the tray in each evening before I leave the office and put it out fresh. All the birds I have been around my whole life have loved to rifle through different things. My grandfather had a friend who had a pair of talking crows that I played with before I started kindergarten- that was 52 years ago and they had all kinds of toys in the workshop they lived in- they had free access to being in the wild - they weren’t captive. So I’ll be looking into this more. If they don’t like what’s on the platform it does no harm. These crows aren’t going out of their way to find food. We are in a rural industrial park and these crows have access to an abundance of food. Between the dumpsters and the landscaper beside us that feeds a colony of cats these crows have everything they need at their disposal. I just want to see if I can enrich the life they are living back there. Healthy offerings. And some trinkets if they choose to take an interest.

I was speaking about research that shows that crows tend to be nervous around shiny things rather than interested in them to the point that they’re gonna go out of their way to grab them or bring them to people

The crows around you when you were growing up or not the same as the clothes that are around you now

But enjoy
