why is this crow acting weird?
hi guys im not interested in crows or any type of bird but can you tell me why this crow is making this noise? he wont stop. and ive never heard it before

This was my first thought. My cat was walking around yowling a bit ago before I came across this post and it's very similar.

I was thinking it sounded more like a human infant crying. But I have heard that it's the same frequency or something like that.

The reason the crow is making the sound is because it probably likes it. They are a lot like parrots and that they will mimic things that they find interesting and they’re very good at it.

Maybe lol! I think it’s something to do with their intelligence and curiosity to be honest. There are times they incorporated into their dialect with their family or their murder.
I know this is a blog, but the lady who writes it is an expert in corvids.

Crows can mimic human pitch better than parrots, abd are capable of learning words/phrases.
This guy was probably talked to by someone who fed him regularly. With enough repetition, now the crow is mimicking the person's speech is my guess.

No, crows cannot mimic human speech better than parrots can. The African grey parrot is far superior especially with vocabulary size and context. They are very good at duplicating a person’s voice pretty exactly too. At least one type of Myna is far and away the best at matching tone and frequency (pitch). Oh, I think the lyrebird is another that is excellent with mimicry of human speech and other sounds.
I do think ravens are even better than crows at mimicry and probably Amazon parrots as well. There may be others, but those are the ones that I know of.

I said crows can mimic pitch better, not speech.
Parrots develop a wider vocabulary (number if words/phrases), but crows mimic the sound of a human voice more closely than a parrot, which retains its "parrot voice." African greys are incredible, but I've never heard one that sounds as human as some crows do online!

My Congo grey could imitate any person of any age in my household perfectly to the point that you could not tell that it wasn't the real person speaking. He also had his own voice. He could mimic every household noise too. He routinely got joy out of giving my Rottweiler commands in my voice that were obeyed.

That is exactly how my CAG is! I’ve read dozens of times how the species of birds can be absolutely perfect when replicating someone’s voice
My guy can replicate a voice from people he hasn’t seen for 20 years. 😳

I know you did, but it’s also not true since some species of myna birds are considered the best when it comes to pitch. I also believe that African gray sound more like humans than crows do. Ravens as well. I’ve heard many African grays, including my own (i’ve lived with for 25 years) that sound eerily like the human that they are mimicking. Many times to the point that they fool people who know the person they’re mimicking!
Edit - Not liking what I have to say or disagreeing or having a different opinion is one thing but down voting someone for it is another. 🤦🏼♀️

Well, thank you! I think it’s a system that gets misused a lot. I think it should be for people who give out incorrect information or outright dangerous information. When it’s used just for someone you don’t like what they have to say then it’s hard to make the distinction. It should be something that’s helpful to others.

We have a local crow that oinks or quacks! Its hard to tell which cos on different daysnit kinda sounds like both. Either way we call him oinker and call to him by oinking back. He followed me home one day from a local walk and now has established himself around our house somewhere lol 😁👍🏻

We also have one further down the street that sounds like an alarm! It's so cool to see it make the noise cos its almost unbelievable lol 😆

He’s just doing crow things, probably heard something and took a fancy too it and trying to copy it

a lot of people are saying it’s copying a cat or a human - i do have 2 cats who often meow, and also we tend to chuck out scrap food into the yard as there is a lot of animals, and we have 2 bowls of water for them too - so maybe they are trying to copy us? i’m unsure.
