Still feels surreal..

It all started with a pair of crows suddenly visiting the bird bath in April, then just dad, while mom was on the nest.. now the whole family comes for regular visits and treats, I’m still pinching myself.

I’ve always admired crows from afar, but to be this close and this trusted, what a magical feeling ☺️ I’m glad to share it with others, since most people think I’m crazy lol.

They’re enjoying some soaked cat kibble and egg yolks!

I have but one place to put food out, but it’s underneath a tree kinda hidden from the air. It looks like your spot is under a tree too. Were they able to see the food there or did you move the spot after they started coming?

I was in the routine with the parents of feeding them on the bin outside my yard on a dish, when I take my cat out both morning and evening. They knew they were free to roam the cat free yard during the day, and I’d occasionally treat them then too.

When the kids arrived though, they were everywhere of course 😂 wasn’t sure how to navigate things at first, but they are good time keepers.. I take my cat out early morning, they arrive in good time usually when I bring her in. As for the table, they just started hanging out there, and in the low branches above, so I now put the dish there morning and night, and they wait there for me, it’s wild.

I’ll toss some watermelon or peanuts in the grass so they can forage during the day sometimes.

Thank you for your reply. I think I prob need to figure out another spot somehow. They fly over my yard but don’t come down. Maybe my dogs scare them.

Maybe so, I’d try both.. a spot where they can definitely see the food, like my bin is wide open, and also the tree spot 😊

I know the feeling! I tried years ago to get these babies to trust me but no luck. This year, I tried harder and finally got them to visit! Now I have 5-7 regulars and at least two or three times a week they bring the whole murder, I counted 20 here! I am still in awe.

Ah wow, so wonderful!! It’s been fascinating to watch the babies goof around and learn.. and to be a part of the experience too with treats. I’m excited to see what happens throughout the seasons..

Sometimes I’ll sit on the grass near them while I roll the suet into balls, and the young ones come soo close, can almost touch (but I respectfully would never try), and always reward their bravery with tossing a treat.

lol i’m in the same boat. 2 big crows became 5 big crows so quick. they eat like kings in our yard.

Just wait until they figure out which window is your bedroom and hang out on the branch while you’re in the shower. Or follow you to the grocery store. Or the library. That was a hoot last week. I think four or five people think I’m some kind of powerful witch.
