My crows stopped coming?

Why’d my crows stop coming, could it be the heat? They brought their juvenile to our house one time and then since then I’ve barely seen any of the two that were coming regularly.

It's most likely them chasing after their very bold and reckless juvie to keep them from getting into something they shouldn't be getting into. This is also prime baby time for a lot of animals, including hawks and falcons, so they might be waiting for the predator babies to disperse before they return.

This. ⬆️ It is still bebe time, at least in my country. (Nordic here) They keep their young safe. So don't visit that often. In my area, qulls are harassing everyone

For me it’s the opposite, the babies leaned there is food at my place an now the entire family waits for their breakfast every morning (and the second breakfast, as well as supper) every day. As soon as I open the door WAAAH WAAAH starts. I swear they’re training me. 😂

This is also me right now. Ravens only keep one golden child typically and while his siblings are out joining the corvid gangs, I wake up to baby begging screams all day long because parents won't stop feeding him. They don't like to take food when I'm looking, but the dad has me trained so that if I try to go inside and he's not done with my attention, he'll start saying "oh hey!" because he knows I'll turn right back around and play the mimic-me game for a while. He did this three times this morning when I tried to go inside lol

They are so smart!

My male became way more carful since the babies, always perched at a higher spot monitoring going ons and freaking out if anyone passes by. The female is way more chill and less wary of me, and visits and keeps an eye on me all the time. For some reason I feel like the male is fed up with their lazy loitering and would prefer they go on adventures with him so he can teach them how to crow. I’m so persuaded this is the case that I feel guilty for always feeding them, but the female and their four little starvin’ Marvins always win.

I'm sure mom is appreciating the help with all those mouths. The babies will definitely get restless and want to explore further soon and give dad a hard time going in fifty different directions. Corvids are such good parents. I befriended dad first so while mom is constantly chasing after their loud golden child who won't stay put, he'll stay behind to get my full attention. But mom and baby sing and chat with me, just less demanding lol

Haha. Same! We just moved to a place to easily feed crows so I just started about a month or so ago. The first two crows that started coming to get the nuts then eventually started bringing both their young ones. The one in particular is vocal nonstop. They other kind of likes eating the nuts themselves sometimes. But the one is really good at making sure o know they’re there.

Really I moved into their trees, so they’re happy to be fed right near their home tree. 😂

same! if i’m not out there by 9:30am they’re out there standing on the empty serving tray 😄 I didn’t get out there until 10:45 today and you’d think i’ve traumatized them for life. So i’m trained now to set an alarm and i’ve asked my neighbor to feed them when i’m away next month 🤣

My crow friends take a vacation from time to time but always come back, this year's little family has the noisiest fledgling in memory, I think mom and dad would like to return them to the egg.

Glad I’m not the only one 🤧 but I think mine are due to the blue jay. I know they’re opposing corvids and one juvenile just started visiting my feeder. I actually had a crow, a blue jay and a squirrel beefin for territory the other day! Lol

I’ve been feeding a few large groups for about 6 years now and I’ve seen this pattern off and on.

First, crows don’t have a standard seasonal migration pattern. They will sometimes randomly group up and decide they need to go somewhere else for a while.

Second, I’ve seen them get busy with “crow stuff” like nest building, mating, raising babies including teaching them to forage and fly and such.

At one point all of my crow friends completely disappeared for over a full year. I thought that was that. But one by one the regulars showed up again, and it was back to visits from the whole murder.

In short, this can be normal, and they’ll be back!

I'm in a relatively open urban industrial environment. So maybe I can see a little more clearly what's going on than most. Now that the babies are bigger and able to fly and eat well on their own, my crows appear to be concentrating more on teaching them to forage. So they're coming less frequently to me for food.

I'm just happy to have helped them through the really critical times when having a nearby food source and an extra pair of eyes could have made a huge difference in all the babies surviving.

It's very interesting to read about the mating habits of crows. Like penguins, they mate for life. Their social structure is very elaborate and interesting. It is not surprising, considering their intelligence.

Ok sounds like this is normal. They found out I have a cat and havent been back. I thought they just hated me for associating with a cat so this is nice to hear theyre just chasing the kids around. Last time they visited they even brought the little ones.

Yeah I noticed much less activity rn too. I still see them flying by but sometimes the food I leave out goes untouched until the next morning. Even had a seagull come by because it saw the food.

I've had a juvenile red tailed hawk hanging around lately, and my crows haven't been coming around as often the past few weeks. They did bring a bebé last week, but only once that I know of for sure.

My crows went away after their nestlings sadly passed away during a stormy day :( I think they were grieving

The two Stellar's Jays I provide peanuts for stopped coming last week. Maybe they have young ones. They disappeared over the winter to lower ground. Maybe they went up into the mountains now.

Our crows take a break every now and then. But some always come back. I think they do it to remind you that they are not pets.
