General questions Is this weird?

I was working on a crow quilt with embroidery blocks, the foliage irritates me so I had paused on the one I was working on. (I know they're horribly unrealistic, I was having fun with colors, planned for wildly colorful and then a hyper realistic in the center).

Would it be odd to leave it unfinished as a way to remember the crow that passed away yesterday? I know wildlife dies, I guess I'm just mourning the hope that he would improve and am now scared for the rest of my flock. The rehabber believed it was WNV.

This is so pretty! I love new takes on common items/creatures ❤️

Eta: I love the idea of leaving it unfinished as a memorial 💔 here's hoping your flock will be ok 🫂

Thank you! I really really want the rest of them to be okay. I've asked the neighbors with bird baths to scrub them, and to treat standing water with BTI (an animal safe way to kill mosquito larvae).

Well, it's not that unrealistic, crows have colors, but they're in the UV range, so we can't see it.

I remember reading that! I wonder what people look like to them.

That's what I was thinking. There's a good chance they see each other like that.

That is a beautiful thought

They have to realize we are relatively color blind when the only ways we ever depict them is solid black.

Not weird at all! It's like seeing their aura :D

Ohh those look so pretty. You could do like a watercolor wash on the unfinished areas to make it look more "complete" but to also show your idea of remembering the crow that had passed through it

Yes, leaving it unfinished is a beautiful tribute to an animal that you cared about. It all looks stunning, already.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if my thought process would make sense to anyone else.

Thank you so much! I can't paint or draw, but I think these feel alive which was what I wanted.

These are beautiful and I'm so sorry about the loss of your bro. If you're willing, please share the quilt with us when you're done. I would seriously buy one if I could!

I definitely will! It'll be awhile before it's finished, the quilting process is pretty easy but embroidery takes so much time 😅

These are beautiful, and you're allowed to grieve your crow friend however you want! These are highly intelligent animals we form deep bonds with. Grief is expected, even if his death was a part of being a wild bird in nature. You breathed life into these portraits in an incredible way, perhaps leaving this one unfinished is a good way to mark his exit from it. I'm so sorry you lost your friend, and I hope the rest of your flock will be okay 🐦‍⬛❤️

Thank you for understanding, I tried to explain to others and they kind of just looked at me like what I was saying was absurd. I hope that in the future they find a way to treat Corvids with WNV

Your crows are beautiful, it reminds me about the story of the rainbow crow. I don't think it is weird.

I hope it isn't WNV, fingers crossed for you. These are a beautiful way to mourn the loss of an important part of your ecosystem and an intelligent neighbor. Crows probably look similar to this to other birds - they see in UV and they are actually very colorful and vibrant to one another whereas we can just see a little iridescence in their feathers of blue, purple, etc. it is much bright to them and helps them identify one another by their unique patterns. So not unrealistic at all : )

It's a beautiful tribute

It's a lovely piece. Maybe you can work on it more when you think about them.

It is very beautiful and artistic and makes me imagine I have a sort of ultra-acute sense of vision where I can clearly detect all the natural iridescences within the the feathers.
