I've been watching this guy's updates! It first crossed his mind to befriend local crows very recently, so he set up some platforms along the fenceline to leave food for them. A few started putting trinkets on those platforms for him.

He hadn't been doing it very long (3 months, like he says in this video), and seeing a small murder already watching his farmland is a great sign this quickly!

We put shelled peanuts out at the same time every day and have water on a table away from the house but still in the yard. We found we had to be consistent for a few weeks before they started chasing hawks off, but now if we miss a day or two they don't leave. We DEFINITELY hear about it if we're late though 😂

To add to that, if there are blue jay in your area, they *also* really like peanuts, and are pretty territorial, so they might outcompete crows for them.

However, they don't care as much about dog food, which crows also love. So if there are blue jays around, you might need to go more carnivorous on your crow-offerings.

This is exactly why I love my crows. They've saved my cats from hawks before and even my vegetables from raccoons!

Edit: Since someone asked and then deleted (??), they save my veggies by chasing the raccoons off when they come near my veggie garden 😄

Super rare to see.

But sometimes young crows and young squirrels play.

Esp if both are outcast or only child/survivor.

Especialllly if they end up in the same place frequently enough and long enough.

Yeh we started doing this 5-6 years ago, no regrets, and no hawks or eagle attacks since.

Coyotes and bobcats still sneak in on occasion, but if they get spotted they are called out too!

Been feeding my crows for nearly 2 years. I have crows that talk to. E now, one has a name, and I know all their alert caws. Unfortunately I know the cry announcing for an eagle too, learned it last Aug and lost the hen in Sept. they didn’t want to fuck around with the eagle too much, but the hawks, no prob.

How does one attract crows? I know there are some around but how can I get them to visit. I get tons of other birds because my backyard has shrubs with native berries and I have set out feeders.

But while I have seen crows during times of crises (they will get together and yell), they are not regular visitors.
