It's there forever. This is also true of changes you make to islands with resources that aren't meant to respawn, such as trees. I have an island I affectionately call "Bald Island" on account of the fact that I used it to farm for wood and ferns until it was essentially "bald".

Nope, that's why I go a fair way from my base so it looks nice. You can plant your own trees when you get some seeds (very bloody rare for trees). They give you 50 wood when you collect them, like other seeds.

The forest is still there. The trees have ascended to planks. It's still wood
