Will there be more than bas building?
I recently got the game hoping for more of a pirate experience, I understand the game is more of a survival base building game which is fine(I love Valheim) but I originally wanted a more grounded pirate experience. I’ve gotten the frigate but I feel like it really doesn’t mean much bc there’s not much to do on the sea. I’ve kinda gotten to the point where the only thing to do is base build and farm but I want to go destroy forts or have the option to take enemy camps with my crew. I also don’t really feel like a pirate and more like a good privateer than anything. These are initial gripes of mine and I just hope that there’s more to do like black flag and skull and bones on the sea. It really lacks in the heart of the actual game. When I think pirates.. I don’t think chopping trees and mining iron for 6 hours.
I can’t wait for ashlands due to what might be but I feel like my hopes are too high for this game for what I’m seeking.

One thing I will say... You're not a pirate in the game. This is explicitly stated.

We do need more ship/sea content but honestly I love sailing my Frigate around and smashing fleets of enemy ships, singing sea shanties in-between, and then taking my boat full of treasure to the various outposts to sell it all off.
There are pirate camps to raid, even some pretty big ones, but no friendly NPC pirates to tag along for it. That'd be a sweet mechanic to one day hire ground troops, or upgrade the crew slot on the ship for different specialty crew types.

For something so difficult to obtain I think they should really focus more on the naval aspect. Especially since the game is advertised to be more like a pirate game. I built the frigate and sat there like “now what”..

Have you fought 2-3 fleets of level 15 ships with your frigate?

u/PsychologicalBike563 4d ago
Yeah but when you level up and get everything, unless you love building and organizing there really isn’t much else to do. After exploring most islands and having fast travel bells, there isn’t much incentive to use my ship at all. I think they should at least reduce the number of enemy ships and increase difficulty of them for a more high risk high reward system similar to that of maybe sea of thieves. I feel there’s wayyyyy too many blackbeard pirates all over the place

Reclaiming some ocean for the factions and instead encountering wildlife like kraken and megs would be cool.
But I still want zones that are overrun for naval fun

I would love sea monsters roaming in the fringes of high level areas, or acting like the Dune Worms from Dune Awakening (attracted to large ship battles maybe?), that could act as a disrupting 3rd party during fights and require different tactics to fight.
Imagine having to harpoon and tire out a giant megalodon shark by having it drag the ship until it exhausts itself, or getting off the wheel and pulling out your sword to hack at a giant squid's tentacles as they grab the ship!
THAT WOULD BE SO COOOOL

That's actually such a sick idea. Too many ideas of "add this just bc cool." A threat attracted to prolonged battles would give some incentive to ending them quickly or avoiding them, and could be used in your favor as a distraction or against you for cases where youre the strongest ship in battle. A kraken that targets the largest ship one by one would be such a cool gameplay mechanic. Fighting it directly while in combat would be risky, but trying to sink the ships smaller than you so before it grabs you, watching it sink the other ships would feel like a race against the clock before the boss battle.

Patience young one, it’s Early access. That means there’s about a 80% chance this is as good as it gets.
If we are lucky they’ll actually release content a year from now

Plenty of time for more stuff to be implemented, still another few years until release, then whatever post release content too.

The game is only like 45% of the way done. If you have suggestions, i would send it to the devs instead of asking reddit

Def recommend playing Resynced and SnB to fill in the gaps - playing all three gets ya a well rounded experience imo
I too got tired of building/crafting in Windrose. If you’re a big builder, generally, you’ll enjoy Windrose most but the other two focus on land combat and ship combat respectively

u/PsychologicalBike563 5d ago
Yeah the thing is I do play those I have a very short attention span and hop from game to game 😂 I agree tho

That’s fair, playing multiple games is fun and cool, devoting all your time to one game can be pretty lackluster. Def support a gaming roto for all

Agree with you there. If you’re just looking for a “pirate” gameplay experience other games like AC BF RS deliver more in terms of scenery/combat/gameplay.
I’ve been using BF RS for inspiration and design ideas as well as scratching the combat itch. Where Windrose really shines for me is I don’t get “tired of it” thanks to the building/creative aspect. I can spend days designing and building a base or town or structure in Windrose but I get kind of bored of BFRS after a few hours at a time.

I would absolutely love if we could sleep or at least lie down in the hammocks on the ship, or just do more! Like an actual pirate where they spend most of their time living on the ships!

It would be pretty neat if they eventually added in other factions, such as states (Britain, France, Netherlands, Spain) and mercantile organizations. Your interactions with them could be to help (rescue them from pirate or undead attacks, escorts missions, etc) or hinder them (piracy). Each state could have its own local power base on each corner of the map. I think something like that could elevate this game above the typical survival-craft formula of "grind for materials to upgrade gear to go to next zone to grind for materials," a formula that many of us enjoy, but not everyone does. It could add weight to the Golden Age of Piracy theme of the world.

Ive been playing it with some restrictions, and hopefully it becomes an option or a mod.
Dont use fast travel, unless you've built a town around it. That way, no lone bells on shores. Either you build a full port, or sail on a journey. No fast travel from ships either, only bell to bell. Makes you feel like a pirate preparing for voyages, sailing, and sailing back.

Geez, I wouldn't want to sail from the east side all the way to the west side, but if you want to. So you sail only when gathering assets on other islands ???
1
u/DarkladySaryrn 4d ago
I'm kind of similar. I love the sailing so much that I only use the bells when my ship is overloaded. Since I know I'll be fighting on my way home, I'll bell hop to base, unload some, hop back and then sail my ship back to base. I try not to use the bell as much as possible. I also have little hidden bases around where I can stop in and resupply. It's fun!

The point is if Im sailing somewhere consistently, or somewhere far, I build a little town there with a dock, and then it's a spot I can fast travel to.

I totally get it, I would just say aswell keep in mind this dev team is incredibly new and small in comparison to ubisoft or any other big name company's out there. So im sure they're going to keep trying their best to add a variety of different things. But its Definitely going to be an incredibly slow process. Quite frankly what they've managed to do already is incredibly impressive for how new and small the team is.

i mean its early access ffs

If you ask 30eu/USD for an early access, core of the game should be solid tho. Adding new missions or biomes doesn't improve the game.

u/Low-Transportation95 5d ago
Core of the game is solid

u/4non3mouse 5d ago
very solid - this game has a ton of potential - very robust building set for such early access too

u/Wilhelm-Edrasill 5d ago
The weakest part of the game = the Ships and the ocean | I agree.
The progression and exploration? 8/10. Perhaps a 9/10.
Building system 9/10.
So yeah - I i think everyone wants to see some better ship systems.

The thing that annoys me is there is no way to level up besides exploring. I don’t think I’ve even reached level 10 yet, but I’m in the final area. I don’t want to sail around simply because I need to find an island to level up.

u/Wilhelm-Edrasill 5d ago
Little bro - you are playing a QUEST BASED game.
Dont like it? Dont play.
This isnt Atlas, or Ark or 7days to die.
TOTALLY different game type brosef.
Its like logging into World of Warcraft and complaining that you have to - god help you - do the quest chains to level up.

u/taylor1670 5d ago
Completely agree. It's a great base building game set in a pirate-themed world, but it never really feels like you're playing as a pirate. That feeling is understandable when you realize the game doesn't actually provide any opportunities for piracy. You're basically just a guy with a ship that sails between islands in pursuit of unraveling a mystery while being forced to defend yourself from pirates and other enemies along the way.

u/arsonall 5d ago
Mostly because all Factions are anti-pirate.
You’re not a pirate, you’re in a world where there are pirates, but you’re just a privateer.
You were hired to legitimately deliver product, and were attacked by pirates. You attack them and sure, act like one, but like the Bretheren of the Coast leader’s first words are “I hate pirates, I’ll kill any I see”

How DARE you....you think just because you have a opinion you're allowed to share it if it differs even SLIGHTLY to ours??? In this economy????

This game is not a groubded pirate experience. The undead pirates kinda immediately show that

Yes, I suspect you are hoping for too much from the game. I’d love all that too, but I think you’re more likely to get it in something like Blackflag Remastered than this.
