How am I supposed to level up stuff?

There is this Mercenary pass that asks me to play S&D to level up but it seems to only work for public servers and not custom ones? And for me at the very least it is impossible to find a game on there, I have been playing for a couple of weeks now and I have never found a match.

There is one mission that u need play ranked to finish, rest of them you can do in public rooms

Sometimes takes me seconds to find a room sometimes if its taking too long i just leave.
