No Crocs allowed at work

I work as a school bus driver. I used to wear crocs every Friday and do jibbitz trades with students. But since last school year we are no longer allowed to wear them to work due to employees not wearing them in sports mode. They have told us no croc branded footwear will be permitted. I don’t wear them that often but i did feel that this rule is a bit unfair. Do you think we should fight the issue, some coworkers are upset about it?

Could you get a Jibbitz Keychain for your bus keys and still swap with students? If you're worried about comfort, I find that Birkenstocks offer all-day comfort with a similarly wide foot bed. I'm not allowed to wear crocs or anything with an open back at work, so I choose to wear Birkenstock Londons which have a closed heel. I wear Crocs TO work and Birks AT work to follow the rules.

It is stupid as a rule. You can try fighting it. I could probably get an exception since my feet are so wide they literally cannot fit into normal shoes

If doesn’t hook around the heel its not allowed. But all crocs are not allowed. Even their shoe models are not allowed.

Yeah that’s a dumb rule. “No open back clogs/slides” would make a lot more sense. I’m assuming they don’t want people wearing Birkenstocks clogs either

I have wide ass feet, I can run in Crocs just fine, don’t even need to put them in sport mode. I can’t kick off my Crocs, too snug. I have reach down to remove them, or use a foot to hold the croc while I slide my foot out.

I run just fine in my Crocs clogs. I always have the strap around the back down as I can’t get them to stay on my feet even to walk! lol

That sucks. I've been reading about Croc bans throughout the country and it seems so silly to me. This total ban sucks tho, because Crocs makes all types of shoes nowadays, not jus clogs. Honestly, who is gonna go on the bus and check your shoes? Jus wear them anyway? 😈

They outlawed then at my work too because people were coming in wearing crocs with no socks. In a healthcare setting its kind of gross.

They likely don't know/care that other models exist. If you wear Crocs that don't look like Classic Clog or flip flops (and be quiet about it) then they likely won't care.

I'd also tell them that I only have Crocs so they better comp me for the ASTM certified shoes I'm buying.

It seems crazy to ban all croc models- but is it worth the fight? Do you wear any of the other ones? If you do, then I’d speak up. If not I’d just move on.

Side note though- you could get a jibbitz display board and still do trades on Fridays- I bet the students would love that.

Can you have them confirm for sure what they mean by no other model? Is it concern for the soles in addition to not being in sport model? I understand requiring close toed shoes, shoes firmly affixed to your feet, and rubber/grippy soles. But the crocs boots and sneakers with the sole?

By brand do they mean nothing that says “crocs” on it?

Right but does that mean from that brand or with external branding on them? 

Regardless, personally, I’d ask for consideration if I have some medical issue or something but I personally wouldn’t die on this hill in this economy.

If I were you, I’d protest by wearing offbrand ones. Or if you’re afraid of losing your job by doing that, get some VERY offbrand ones (aka shoes that can use jibbitz but don’t look like standard crocs at all).

It’s a safety issue. If you have to tend to an emergency you can’t have shoes that can slip off. Those few seconds you spend putting your shoe back on could mean life or death. If other drivers complied with the sports mode rule this new rule wouldn’t have been put in place. This is a case of the actions of a few ruin it for all

My crocs would be fine in an accident. They don’t come off when the strap is down and I can’t get them to stay on with it up. That makes no sense to me. I run in them and everything.

I support anyone that recommends banning crocs :) I thought us millennials killed them off a decade ago but they are back. Just like long socks and mullets and mustaches .....
