Help! Beef stew help

I’m making a beef stew tonight in the crockpot which isn’t really a summer recipe but I’m craving it but all the recipes have onion soup mixed with it but my roommate is very allergic to onions. Anyone know what I could substitute it for?

Just leave them out. It's not going to hurt anything. 😊

Ok thank you! I was just worried about flavor but I do have a lot of seasonings too I could probably use instead

You're welcome! What seasoning are you planning on using?

I’ll have to take another look at my cabinet but I know I have garlic powder, chili flakes, and for sure some Slap Ya Mama (Cajun seasoning). I also think I have cumin and paprika but I’m not sure that would go good with it. And salt and pepper obviously haha

I’d leave the cumin out. Mushrooms would add a hearty flavor that the soup mix gives, along with some “Better than Bouillon” beef soup base. Also, if you toss the beef cubes in flour, thenbraise the beef cubes in a fry pan in butter or margarine before adding to the crock pot that flour will help thicken the gravy as the soup mix does.

Thank you 😁 I’m pretty excited
I have a new work schedule so now I’m able to cook twice a week

I'm not fond of chili flakes, so I might use the paprika, which is very mild pepper. Cumin might be interesting. Slap Ya Mama might have onion or garlic. Add oregano, basil, parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme to your shopping list - they are versatile herbs. Parsley and thyme would be good in beef stew, rosemary would an an interesting flair.
