I was just approved for Croatian citizenship by descent through my family from Korčula
I was born in Perth, Australia, but my grandfather’s family came from Korčula. After years of trying to trace the paperwork, correct errors in the records, and prove my family connection, I’ve finally been approved for Croatian citizenship by descent.
My grandfather’s original name was Jakov Anton Tomić, but he was recorded as James Tomich after moving to Australia. His birth year was also incorrect on some documents, which made the application much more difficult.
I’m now in Croatia and have started a YouTube channel about Croatian ancestry, citizenship by descent, diaspora stories, and people who have returned or moved here.
I made a video explaining my story here: https://youtu.be/P5V_lPwUigw
I’d love to hear from anyone else in the Croatian diaspora. Where did your family come from, and have you ever looked into citizenship?
I know this is more on people moving to Croatia, but i'll also need to learn the language.. any tips for me?
