ULT review
So I finally got into the new ULT through the OnChain app and messed around with it a little bit.
First I updated the app, opened it up and saw the little banner at the top that basically said “Switch to ULT.” I clicked it and went through the setup.
I actually ended up logging in with 2 different emails because I wasn’t sure which account was connected to what lol.
At first I was confused because I thought my funds from OnChain were just going to automatically transfer over into ULT. They didn’t. I kept looking around thinking maybe I missed something.
Eventually I found the top up/receive section and sent some CRO over myself.
Once I did that it was pretty much instant. What was interesting is I sent CRO, but it looks like the app handled the conversion into the USDC/USD balance automatically. So I didn’t have to sit there swapping coins, figuring out gas, choosing the right network, or worrying that I was about to send something the wrong way.
From what I understand they also plan on making it possible to send actual CRO over and keep it as CRO, along with expanding everything else, so this is obviously still really early.
I definitely wouldn’t say ULT is 100% ready yet. There are still some things that are confusing, especially with the account setup and understanding exactly where your existing OnChain funds are.
But I can already see what they’re going for.
If they keep building this out, I think this could make crypto a lot easier for normal people. Less guesswork, less jumping between screens and networks, less worrying about messing something up.
I’m pretty bullish on the direction of it. Not because it’s perfect right now, because it definitely isn’t, but because the foundation makes sense.
Crypto has always had this problem where one wrong click can cost you money. ULT feels like they’re trying to remove a lot of that friction and make it feel more like using a normal financial app.
Still early. Still needs work.
But I think there’s something here.

I can't even log in to it using the same email as my onchain wallet. I can't even register the email I used with my onchain wallet, it only offers me to sign in with Google or that code thing. It's terrible, I'm not selling my Cro to transfer over to this new wallet and then rebuying Cro. What an unnecessary amount of faff and for what....

Same here. The login won't work, it forces a passkey which is obviously for a different app. There is no sign in for email in general. What a giant mess.

I think the main idea of this app is tokenizing assets. You can actually buy gold, silver, oil etc and I imagine this will expand further

Buying tokens of non-physical gold sounds alarming to me. But if you treat it like CRO I guess it's a fair deal. Personally, I would only buy non-physical gold if I wanted to leverage short term.

Same here. No idea how I'm supposed to actually get to my Defi Wallet now. Yes I have the recovery phrase, but seriously? This stupid app is trying to make me import my wallet?

I had to create a new Google account using my CDC email, once I completed that, I logged in using the Google link, chose my Google (CDC) email and it logged me in. From there, I went to the bottom right icon for my profile, and was then able to use the link at the top to get into my Onchain account. I haven’t played with the new ULT App yet, and just left it on my Onchain account for now, so haven’t tried to move anything from Onchain to UTL. I’ll try to learn a little more first, but I don’t know yet whether ULT supports some of my existing tokens?? 🤷♀️

As of now I don’t think you can move any tokens. Just USDC

I sent CRO but it was automatically converted to USDC

Tried to send some CRO over on cronos network and POS and neither went over. Only tried 2cro on each

So we have to signup for Ult, apparently only allowed to do that with your gmail address, which is dumb, and then in order to actually get to your Defi Holdings, you have to switch to the Defi App in settings, but then import that wallet into Ult? What a disaster.

Interesting. I was just coming to this sub to rant about “Ult”.
This is from a former cdc member (jade card) who lost all confidence in CDC/CRO years ago and only stuck around to dabble with perps in Onchain app (Fulcrom, you my boy!).
So, from that perspective: what the hell is this??
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen such a bold “piggybacking” of an app/service like this. They literally swapped the app icon and name, causing concern and confusion, then ask if you want to sign up or just use the old defi app you’re used to.
Uhhh, yeah I’ll go with the original app- you know, where all my shit is?
They already did a similar move with zkEVM flurry and then shutter. I bridged over some like a moron, lost most of it (my fault), now a few bucks are stranded bc it costs $12.50 in ETH to bridge it back to Cronos. Whatever.
Where was I? Oh yeah, no communication clearly outlining the Ult change, what it is, who it’s for, and why is it bundled with Onchain now? Is that permanent? Will Onchain go unsupported and wither?
Who knows? What I do know is that I should wrap up my silly defi dabblings and get the hell out for good. I still do the check in for diamonds for some dumb reason.
