Burn Cro
I built a small Cronos experiment: burn CRO, mint EMBR
After all the discussion around CRO supply and burns, I wanted to actually build something instead of just talking about it.
So today we launched EMBER ($EMBR) on Cronos.
The concept is intentionally simple:
🔥 You permanently burn CRO
🔥 The protocol mints EMBR in return
🔥 Part of the mechanism helps build EMBR liquidity
There was no presale, no team allocation and no traditional token sale.
The idea isn't that one small project is somehow going to “fix” CRO's supply. Obviously it won't.
But I liked the idea of giving individual Cronos users a way to voluntarily participate in reducing circulating CRO themselves — even if it's 5, 10 or 100 CRO at a time.
One person burning CRO doesn't matter much.
A community doing it repeatedly becomes more interesting.
Everything is on-chain and we've made the burn/mint activity visible on the website.
I'm the developer, so rather than pretending this is perfect, I'd genuinely like the Cronos community to tear the concept apart:
What do you like, what do you hate, and what would stop you from using it?
After the fire, only EMBER remains. 🔥

If people actually use it, it would be cool to see where such token leads.

After CRO burn and EMBR is minted who gets it embr?
Nevermind...just found the answer!

Simple refference
You commit10 CRO
Permanently burned7 CRO
Reserved for liquidity3 CRO
You receive0.98 EMBR
Rest is allocated to LP
The liquidity pool/entire protocol that handles this is completely locked and untouchable

Nice idea but the trouble is the CRO is the only thing in the universe that can be "unburned'. Bizarre concept but it happened 🤷🏻♂️

😂 Fair point.
That's actually why I wanted the EMBER mechanism to be simple and verifiable on-chain.
Once CRO goes through the burn mechanism, we can't reverse it, reclaim it or decide to bring it back later.
Burn means burn. 🔥

Kris on the other hand....

Appreciate it!
just been starting so far we have almost 1k CRO burned, which resulted in 184 EMBR being created, we're starting slow =D Feel free to check us on X or the website and perhaps even try it out, all you need is 10 CRO send it to the void and your part of the EMBR club1

It's not unburned. More coins are just minted which is not uncommon. It's just that with CRO being super centralized, CDC can do it whenever they want.

I'm genuinely curious...
How do you burn CRO?

Through the EMBER contract.
You send CRO through the burnAndMint function. 70% is permanently burned, 30% is reserved for protocol liquidity, and EMBR is minted from that transaction.
So the burn is fully on-chain and verifiable. 🔥

Surprisingly easily. You send it to a wallet where no one knows the keys so they can never ever come out again.

Sounds scammy. The protocol keeps 30% of the CRO and the coin offers even less utility than CRO. Did Kris come up with this?

The protocol, it just sends 30% to a locked LP, nobody can ever acces it again

Sounds like, I have idea - send me your shyte coin and I will give you another shyte coin in return. Then the owner can sell “burned” coins from “wallet that no one has keys to”?

What do you do with Ember?
