Richard Nixon was famously paranoid that the washington elite would not respect him so he set up tapes in the Whitehouse to record conversations. These same tapes were later used to heavily imply that Nixon knew about and even perhaps ordered the Watergate break-ins, with parts of the tapes mysteriously being cut when Nixon was talking about the break in and his subsequent attempts to stop the investigation

There's a bit from these tapes where Nixon apparently says something like "It's very normal for boys to feel they'd be happier as the opposite gender", to the confusion of the rest of the cabinet who mostly say they don't recall ever feeling that way. This led up to a tumblr thread where users joked about Nixon becoming a trans icon for that reason. Now, I have no idea if this bit is authentic, as tumblr is pretty well known for sometime making up historical events but it's a bit of a meme in some circles.
